Seems like UC is destined for miniscule improvements at best for this season, which is pretty discouraging.

With the prospect of major roster turnover (again) next offseason, they'll need to really open up the NIL bag to get some quality transfers for fall 2023.

Smooth move Coach Chris Webber.
UC's David DeJulius had tied the game on a banked-in 3-pointer and added a free throw with 11 seconds left. Xavier's Souley Boum was then fouled and made a late free throw with 1.4 seconds remaining with UC rebounding the second. However, Wes Miller called a timeout the Bearcats didn't have. As it turned out, it was on purpose.

"I think you have a better chance to throw it the length catch it and shoot it," UC's Miller said of his thought process of going down three. "In hindsight, the way it (Boum's missed free throw) came off, it looked like we would have had a chance to get a shot at the rim, but you had to make that decision sooner."

Don't know if I believe that was in his mind at that time.

The Bearcats will host Virginia Tech in the NIT this Wednesday - their first appearance in the tournament since 2010.

Interested to hear from the smattering of Bearcats fans on here how everyone is feeling about the season up to this point and our prospects ahead.

Think the season was a bit of a disappointment. They really need to upgrade the roster going into the Big 12. Some players need to be asked to not come back and hit the portal hard especially for a backup PG and some bigs. Would be awesome to secure the 5* center from IN and have him reclassify.

I agree that this offseason will be critical for entering the Big 12 on a competitive note.

There's definitely some dead wood in the squad now, but I'm not entirely confident the coaching staff will clear it all out.

Well, that's embarrassing.

Utah Valley was favored in the game. They also won the WAC. If it weren’t for a dumb conference rule they most likely would of been the WAC rep in the tournament

Looked at getting season tickets last year, decided to pull the trigger this year. Whew, the section I wanted went from about $6k all in for 2 seats up to $8k this coming season. Up 30%. Welcome to P5 athletics. Lower sections didn’t see as big of an increase which is good for me as I doubt I’ll get the section I want.

Yeah, but every night you'll have a game worth attending.....Football season tix went up a little, but even if they went up a lot it would be worth it... We've traded out a steady diet of Tulane, East Carolina, Temple, and or Wichita for Kansas, K-State, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech....Basketball will be like the old BIG EAST days when you had a ranked opponent every night.

And with the overhauled roster, should be competitive from the jump.

With UC’s move to the Big 12 and the steady rise in national relevance of the revamped Big East, the city of Cincinnati is arguably the best city in America for a college basketball fan to live in. Opponents like UConn, Creighton, Marquette, Ed Cooley’s GTown, Pitino’s St. John’s, Kansas, Baylor, K-State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Houston, etc. all coming to town in a given years makes the city a hotbed. I grew up a fan of UC basketball and haven’t attended a college hoops game in many years, but maybe this year I’ll have to get out there and see a few games.

It’s true, it’s true. Trust me …

The Big 12 I imagine is going to be adding some more interesting basketball programs over time like Arizona and Gonzaga. UC's home slate is going to be gold.

UC's incoming class of new players (freshmen and guys from the portal) has been thought of pretty highly. 2 of the highest rated recruits in program history, an athletic Juco transfer PG and 4 transfers who are all solid players, including a 7 footer and a 6'10", 285lb forward. Add in the development of guys returning and it might not be too rough of a year.

The Bearcats just got Tyler McKinley class of 2024 committed. 6'9" four star, originally out of Walnut Hills now attending Link Academy. Beat out Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee, among others to get him. Wes Miller is absolutely killing it on the recruiting trail....

Indeed, huge get. A core of him, Skillings, Griffith and James next year is a great team on paper.

Xavier, too. Xavier really wanted him.

You truly believe UC Basketball will be competitive from the jump in the Big12? Miller won’t make it 3 seasons in Big 12.
I don’t anticipate them winning or finishing in the top 5. I expect they could finish middle of the pack, although that changes drastically if the two transfer bigs can’t get immediate eligibility.

I think you are undervaluing the guys Miller has brought in to go with the core coming back from last year. If they get Reynolds and Bandaogo cleared to play they will be able to hang with anybody in the country. That being said, they will be playing a ranked team about every night in the Big12 so they gotta' bring it.

The social media team just dropped an edit a day or two ago caption 2023-2024 out of conference schedule loading….or something like that. I’d imagine in the next week or so.

Every OOC game except one has been announced so far.

The highlights are:

11/6 - opener against Illinois-Chicago
11/15 - NKU
12/9 - Xavier @ Cintas
12/16 - Dayton @ Heritage Bank Center downtown

Lots of nondescript mid-majors and low-majors fill out the rest of the schedule - all at home.

They also play Georgia Tech at home but not sure on the date.
