Bearcats baskteball

I don’t know that you could coach and run a program Marshall’s way in the NIL era. He always seemed like a major hard IMO.

NIL and the transfer portal have tremendously eroded the power and authority of coaches in the years since he’s been out of the game.

Purposely didn't watch any of the game yesterday or even check the score so I could watch the replay when I got home from work on ESPN+... only for the replay not to appear on ESPN+ at all.

Iowa St will be a different beast today, but at least we won't go into the game short on confidence. Nothing to lose at this point.

We'll have a week-and-a-half to speculate who will be the first players to hit the portal before it opens on Monday, March 24th.

Page seems to be the most likely departee at the moment based on his recent DNPs and overall limited PT since the start of February.

You can make a solid case for many others to either go or stay depending on your perspective.

It looks like the team will be mandated by the Big 12 to participate in the College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas so there's a chance the make-up of this roster changes quite a bit before that event tips off on March 31st.

I listened to Dan and Terry call the Iowa State game on the radio....They were less than confident that the Cats would have enough guys stick around for 19 days til this Crown thing kicks off. You gotta' have 7 scholarship players to be in it, Dan and Terry were like "We'll have to wait and see"....

I guess this Crappy Crown tournament is another post season BS move by the NCAA—just like the meaningless bowls.

Do they expect UC fans will travel to Vegas for it? I’d rather see Cats alum in the TBT.

......16 team tournament, winning team gets $300K, I believe FOX is underwriting the thing. You gotta' win it to get paid. So your options are do you enter the portal, head out overseas, or stick around for a 1 in 16 chance at $300K divided up by your team. Nobody worries about going to classes and stuff anymore.

UC will play DePaul in the first round of the Crown tournament in Vegas on Tuesday, April 1st at 3 pm.

The team committed on the basis that they would have at least 7 scholarship players available to compete.

Rumors are that 4-5 players are expected to enter the portal. No names have been shared yet.

Can guys play in this and still enter the portal?

Splitting $300,00 among the team may be enticing to some to stick around and play in this.

Does the $300,000 get split just to players, or other getting paid as well (coaches, trainers, etc)

How appropriate that this thing kicks off on April Fools Day. They can be In the portal and still play.....pretty sure it is just the players splitting $300K....As if this year could not possibly suck anymore, Xavier gets into the NCAA field with exactly 1 Quad1 win all year. If I was an Indiana fan, I would be Pissed.

UNC with only one Q1 win as well.

I would not be surprised if UC loses to DePaul.

Just depends on which UC team shows up.

Are there any reports on who won’t be playing for UC? I assume everyone is playing… I have not heard otherwise.
Skillings posted a photo in Fifth Third with a caption like unfinished business or not done yet or something like that. Have to assume he is at least staying for the Crown.

I would say Skillings is the key to the whole season. His offensive rebounding, takes this bunch from a good team to a top tier team. His absence made all the difference in the loss at Villanova. A healthy Skillings and halfway decent free throw shooting, we should still be playing late into March....

I called it back in December fellas......Cats would still be playing late into March. Hell, still playing into April. Of course I didn't think we'd be playing in something called The Crown, but still playing.

UC hires Corey Evans as first ever GM. 🧐
He’s well thought of in the basketball world. I’m all for good hires.

This doesn’t really help Wes Miller’s issues though. He is a good talent evaluator. He isn’t a good in game coach. Maybe Evans will help build a better more cohesive roster though? Looking for a positive that’ll help Miller but I’m not seeing it.

I think this is the hire that will make or break Miller's time at UC. If UC doesn't get over the hump next year, Miller will be gone.

I hope Evans hits the transfer portal hard and picks up some quality pieces. Mitchell from Texas in the portal last year was a great positive for UC.

Do the Bearcats have a full roster for the game vs. Depaul today?

I have not seen otherwise, but I didn't know if anyone else has heard differently.

Tough to watch a team, when their season ended almost 3 weeks ago.

This tournament is full of glorified summer scrimmages. And listening to a washed up Brando do the games is brutal.

Cats took care of business today but the performance was tough to judge given how bad DePaul was.

Page didn't play and Betsey only saw the court for 2 minutes in the first half, which likely means both are gone come next week.

The team will have to raise their game against UCF on Thursday.

Betsey has been recovering from an injury so I wouldnt necessarily assume he is gone. Saw a post from Dan Hoard I think on Twitter saying something along the lines of “the good thing about the crown is Betsey has been able to practice with the team for the first time in awhile and the team is constantly getting hyped whenever he makes a play in practice”

I hope not at least. I think Betsey can be a hell of a player next year.

I agree, I like Betsy. I think he has great length and can stretch the floor with his outside shooting.

On another note, assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Drew Adams will be heading to Indiana University to be an assistant next year, according to his Instagram account.

I guess we'll see if anything changes with the minutes tonight. I would assume a healthy Betsey would play more than Rayvon who had 16 minutes to Betsey's 2 on Tuesday.
