B10 Pick'Em

Over these last 6 years, no one has repeated at 1st in the B10. Veto just missed winning in 2016 and missing by 1.5 in 2017. And kklotz has made an impressive run, finishing 3rd, 3rd, NP & 2nd in the last 4 years. Yankeefan33 is the only other B10 Top 5 repeater, finishing 4th in 2015 and 5th last year.
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride....

Looks like I’ve been cheating off the wrong guys!

How do they keep team scores at the big ten tournament? How much are placement points and advancement points?
Trackwrestling.com does all the work for me. I go to the B10 on track, go to results, team results (Iowa, for example), and they list all the pts each wrestler for Iowa scored. I'll sort my spreadsheet by teams (Iowa, etc) and weights, find that 77 people picked Spencer Lee, type in his score and do an autofill for the other 76 Spencers. Then I move to Desanto, etc. When I finish with Iowa I move to the next team. It takes me about 15 minutes to enter scores for 1,000 names (most are duplicates to type and autofill).

But to let you know how the math works...
Advancement pts are 1 pt in championship bracket and 0.5 in the consos.
Bonus is 1 (MD), 1.5 (TF), and 2 (F, DF, DQ, etc).
PLACEMENT POINTS
1st place: 16 points
2nd place: 12 points
3rd place: 10 points
4th place: 9 points
5th place: 7 points
6th place: 6 points
7th place: 4 points
8th place: 3 points

Placement pts are awarded as soon as possible. So, when you win in the 1/4s, you are guaranteed 6th place and given 6 pts (plus advancement, plus bonus). If you then win in the semis, you're guaranteed 2nd place. You've already been given 6 pts for 6th place, so you get 6 more for 2nd place (plus advancement, plus bonus). If you have a bye, you get an advancement pt if you win the next round. And there are no advancement pts awarded for the final placement matches (1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, 7th & 8th).

I think I covered everything.

To add to this, once you are already in “placement rounds” (semifinals, consi QF, consi SF, etc) you do not get advancement points (the 1 and 0.5) anymore.

You just get the bonus points and now the new “lowest” placement points you can get.

For instance, a kid in the semifinals already can’t do worse than 6th so he already has the 6 points for 6th place.

If he wins in the SFs he doesn’t get the 1 point advancement he gets the difference between 6th and 2nd place which is 6 more points plus whatever bonus.

HS scoring for tournaments is the same way, the difference is that the placement points are slightly different in HS and the advancement points are 2 and 1.

One other caveat, if a wrestler has a bye, as long as ANY match is wrestled in that round in that weight class, they still get the advancement points, but obviously can’t get bonus.

Incorrect. The only matches that don't get advancement pts are the final placement matches (1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, 7th & 8th). A semi winner will get 1 advancement + 6 placement + bonus. Same with conos except that final match.

Best of luck everyone...Picking NCAA is much easier in my estimation. I pretty much gave up after my #5 pick?‍♂️
Kind of shocked at the number of folks that think Seabass is only as good as a five, even in that grinder of a weight class...
You've got 2 #8s MP. I normally don't catch these until I enter them Friday night. Sometimes not until Steve Harvey hands out the crown.

@ BDHOF He listed Decatur as his 10 seed although he is 14. Don't know if that matters.
