The weather in the days leading up to the derby was ridiculously bad. That may have kept some people away.Actual attendance was down this year while viewership was up.
In the heat of battle, however, Alvarado lost track of how many times he had used the crop to encourage Sovereignty forward, going over the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority's six-hit limit.
Implemented in July 2022, HISA's rule states that riders can use the crop on the horse's hindquarters "no more than six times and in increments of no more than two strikes before allowing horse to respond for at least two strides."
In the NBC replay of the Kentucky Derby, it appears that Alvarado, who has been a jockey since 2007, used the crop at least seven times. The final use came when Sovereignty had grabbed a half-length lead at the sixteenth pole before hand-riding to the wire.
Unless they spread the dates out, you may never see another run at the Triple Crown. Trainers aren't training for two week breaks and owners see the horse's value in post racing breedingThe Preakness is today. Not as much of a draw to watch when the Kentucky Derby winner is not running in it.
Perhaps a bigger prize or a bonus show up fee for triple crown winnerUnless they spread the dates out, you may never see another run at the Triple Crown. Trainers aren't training for two week breaks and owners see the horse's value in post racing breeding
I wonder how far you would need to spread them out to appeal to the owners/trainers again.Unless they spread the dates out, you may never see another run at the Triple Crown. Trainers aren't training for two week breaks and owners see the horse's value in post racing breeding
It was a great race to watch. Journalism and Rispoli ran and jockeyed an incredible race. I know they were the favorite, but to battle back was exhilarating from a fan perspective. That was a fun race to watch. Amazed at all the contact he was able to get through and take the lead at the wire.
I would think if you moved the Preakness back a week and keep a three week break till the Belmont you'd get more trainers and owners to go for it.I wonder how far you would need to spread them out to appeal to the owners/trainers again.
The money they make on the race track is minimal compared to what they make as prostitutes in retirement. A little bit of short term money isn't worth the risk. Especially is the horse isn't being trained for a two week restPerhaps a bigger prize or a bonus show up fee for triple crown winner
