2025 VASJ Vikings Football ***official thread***

Well, here we are again, and onto another football thread. Joes is coming off a disappointing finish getting man handled by Ursuline in the 2nd round. A bunch of big questions will need to be answered before the start of the 25 season. Will things change? Doubt it and yet to be seen. Who will step up as the Vikings QB, does D’Angelo White, the 6’5 TE/WR get utilized in the game plan, and does TJ Moore grow further to be the featured back and continues to grow into the roll that he inherited from when Bo Jackson went down? My biggest concern is seeing the defense play be better instead of keeping teams in games or blowing coverages that allow for easy scores. Time will only tell.

Thank you for posting. Walnut Ridge is a tough opener. Very glad the Bengals are on the schedule.

My wish list (in order) for future schedules: Lake Catholic, Ursuline, and Glenville.

The Vikings were a completely different team the first time they played us vs the second time and I'm not talking about how they played. The first game they were fired up and ready to play. They believed they could win and played that way all 4 quarters. The second game they were beaten before they walked on the field. You could tell by body language and effort that they had packed it in. I know it gets beaten to death on here but that is the Rotsky effect. You can see that the kids on the sideline are just done with the screaming and berating and all his other antics. They were just plain worn out.

The Irish were definitely the better team that night but not for the reasons you claim.

The Irish were plain better in all aspects but there was no fight in the Vikings. Not like the first game.
Agreed on this. I couldn’t believe how much they just laid down and took that beating. On top of the fact that they hung tough on the first game.

The first game they were really physical. We played really bad in the first half but a lot of that was do to how the Vikings played. I was especially impressed with how hard the RBs ran for their size. A lot of that was missing in the second game.

I’m glad you said it, anytime I say basically the same thing I get crushed by the Viking faithful.

So they played well in one game and poorly in another against a very good team? That’s some revelation about the coach? They had a bad night and lost on the road. The prior year in the playoffs they had a bad night and almost overcame it. Ursuline is a very good team that has had the Vikings’ number. Don’t overthink this.

Just heard from someone within the school that surveyors were out recently surveying the area for the new bleachers and pressbox for the football field.

So maybe we may see some finishing touches this summer and finally getting this project wrapped up.

That would be awesome. As mentioned on this thread, the setting is fantastic. Just need real bleachers

Looks like VASJ will travel to Gilmour week 8 (per update on the 2025 schedules thread). Good to see the Lancers back on the schedule.

How many new transfers so far?
Perfect timing Mr. Rox. I was at the school today and watched as 22 of the most highly developed athletes from all over the country tour the campus. They all confirmed to me that they will fly in for the games and promised to independently and remotely study. Thus, to answer your question, at least 22, but hopefully more.

Rotsky certainly has plenty of NIL money but yeah way to deflect the question. I am aware of two area standouts making the move to 185th and Lakeshore. Let’s not pretend it isn’t happening. I simply asked how many others…

Since he can't coach them up, has to bring in replacements.

I have personally invested $3.2 million into paying for a star QB and WR that will assure at least a 3rd round appearance with our coaching staff.

Sad news to report, former VASJ assistant coach and Hawken assistant coach, Tom “Red” Kenny “SJ c/o 72” has passed away today. Coach Red also spent some time on staff at St. Ed’s under Rick Finotti. My thoughts and prayers go to the Kenny family and to everyone that Coach Red made an impact for.

The new division alignments have been released yesterday. The Vikings will remain in D-III Region 9. Joining in an already loaded region will be Benedictine to add the mix of with Ursuline, Kenston, Chardon, Gilmour, and Aurora.

Red was a great man. This is a very difficult loss for VASJ. He definitely bled the colors of St. Joes.

9-1 probable, 10-0 very possible.

Not gonna lie, that’s a very soft schedule. Should only be challenged in the last two games. Walnut Ridge was a 10-0 team built on a fluff schedule, shouldn’t be a big challenge. Playoffs will get real though with region they’re in.

I saw on another thread that Ursuline is also open on Week 4. Playing the Irish just makes sense - I hope it comes together

I would argue it very much doesn't make sense to play them. We've seen them twice the last two seasons and IMO neither regular season matchup has benefitted us for our playoff matchup. I'll assume we see them again in Region 9 playoffs and I prefer that it's Ursuline's first look at the Vikings.
