Was this replacing Nori or Phillips?Let's just say that if the Superintendent were to have gone with the group's recommendation they would not be looking for a coach now. He was superior to ANY candidate, including Larlham.

I'm not saying that private schools don't ride the cultural wave in order to benefit their athletic programs if they prioritize them... I would just say that a school like CVCA isn't that school. Yes they benefit, but I really don't think it's a priority. EdChoice is great for us. I'm a Hudson resident who sends my kid to CVCA. My kid kinda likes football and music. In both cases Hudson's programs runs circles around CVCA. That kid goes to CVCA. I would guess my experience as a parent in these local public districts is very similar. CVCA is not perfect, but they're aiming at something altogether different and I like where they're aiming for my kid.Yep. Claiming public education is the culprit is a convenient excuse, not a reason. I'd throw Aurora in there as well. No problems keeping a lot of good football players home there either (although there are a few that feel that they are better than Aurora and have pretty much sat the bench at their private school).
No, Stow is not on the level of Hoban or Walsh as very few teams are. However, Stow should have a 7 to 8 win team every year and be on a Hudson level. Hudson is a perennial playoff team and usually wins a couple of games and then loses to Walsh or Hoban because they are not on that level. Just like Stow under Nori and Phillips and years ago under Gare Mattes Stow would make the playoffs and lose to St Eds ,St,Ignatius or Mentor. Teams who were on another level. What was Stows record last year with Phillips? Was it on the down spiral then or is it just last three seasons. Walsh and Hoban are different animals right now not sure it’s fair to compare Stow to them, maybe I’m wrong?
Well, depending on what level the Superintendent was talking about, maybe they did get there. The dumbest comment ever made was made by the Superintendent (Bratton) made after the state semifinal loss to St Eds and just after Mark Nori left. He said: "We are looking to get to the next level."
Kimpton kids that I know of:How many Kimpton kids are really leaving for parochials?
It was Ignatius.Yep. Claiming public education is the culprit is a convenient excuse, not a reason. I'd throw Aurora in there as well. I'm hearing that Hudson may've gotten a kid to come home that opted for a grass is greener situation out of middle school and went to a private school. I don't know the details except he's a lineman. Assume it was from Walsh or Hoban. Imagine how different Stow's season would have been if the Walsh QB or Ed's LB would've decided to come home to Stow.
Then he wouldn't be playing at Walsh or Hoban anyway! It was Ignatius.
Kimpton kids that I know of:
Walsh's starting QB from two years ago.
Walsh's starting WR from last year.
Hoban has a current starting O Lineman.
Eds has a 3 year starting LB that also plays RB.
Walsh has a current 6'4" WR that lives in Stow. He moved in from Akron or somewhere and didn't play at Kimpton. But playing at Stow wasn't even considered.
There may be more.
There will be more in the upcoming years. I've seen Stow kids at Walsh and Hoban games wearing their Stow football stuff. Parents are fed up and are looking out for their kids, which is the right thing to do. If you have a kid that LOVES football, go to the place where he will thrive. Have you seen the Walsh or Hoban weight rooms? Where they have actual strength and conditioning coaches? Stow has an okay new weight room, but there isn't anyone to really oversee it and keep kids aligned. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Wow. Didn't think Hudson lost anyone to Iggy.It was Ignatius.
he's a good player and good kid. They are glad to have him back.Wow. Didn't think Hudson lost anyone to Iggy.
Any good? I'm assuming he is at least big. But they were so terrible this past year, I'm no
This is not a response to Popcorn but a general statement. One thing I think to point out is that people always refer to Stow losing kids to Walsh or Hoban because of how a current sport program is doing and that is all they chalk it up to, as if its stealing or Stow "lost them" I went to Stow and then Walsh. There were about 5 guys from Stow that year that went to Walsh, all for different reasons, and not all of them made it. There are families in Stow whose kids grow up wanting to go to WJ, Hoban, etc because of family connections, etc. My point is, its always going to happen, its not some hole that is going to be plugged. Sure, some kids go for purely athletics with no connection and that could be stopped with a good program. But WJ and Hoban will always get kids from Stow, Falls, Aurora, Hudson, etc. I often see it oversimplified on these threads.Kimpton kids that I know of:

I think the question is if it is getting worse, better or staying about the same. Is Stow losing kids who normally would stay home? I'm pretty sure the Ed's LB would've. His brother did. Now, 1 kid doesn't indicate a trend. I'm pretty sure the Stow kids over at Walsh were pretty much always destined for Walsh and when they went there the school was just coming out of a dumpster fire of a program. So, I'm not sure a better program at Stow would've made much of a difference. Would be interesting to truly look into it vs just going by anecdotes (which I'll admit, I'm guilty there too). This is not a response to Popcorn but a general statement. A good many parents want their kids to go to a private / parochial school because they feel they will get a better education mainly due to the rift raft in the public schools, behavior, discipline issues, levy failures , which results in cuts in both academic and extracurricular programs, more administrative support etc.I think the question is if it is getting worse, better or staying about the same. The money EdChoice gives to a private school is per student is almost 5k (less for elementary school) if I'm not mistaken. Stow (i'm guessing) probably has a cost of 10-12k per student in their school system. What entity pockets the other 5-7k? Is it split? Does it stay at the state level? Does it stay in the district?A good many parents want their kids to go to a private / parochial school because they feel they will get a better education mainly due to the rift raft in the public schools, behavior, discipline issues, levy failures , which results in cuts in both academic and extracurricular programs, more administrative support etc.
From my understanding, 3 is not 4. Let’s see if he’s a man of his wordAD is running out the clock. My understanding was that he gave the head coach an ultimatum of 4 wins. We'll see.
I know the Hoban OL and one Walsh WR both would've gone to Stow if the program was strong. Neither had ties to the privates. The decision was football based, and the Ed Choice made it easier.I think the question is if it is getting worse, better or staying about the same. Is Stow losing kids who normally would stay home? Stow has a pretty good amount of kids who go to Holy Family, play CYO and then go private. I don't know the numbers or how many but I know it happens frequently.I'd be curious as to whether those kids played in the Stow youth system. Sometimes that's the best way to keep kids in the system for the high school program.
Small aside to the Gregory kid going to Eds. His 8th grade year the AD, Feldman, decided to schedule a 9th grade game at Stow against, you guessed it, Eds. It was as expected a beatdown and the middle school kids got to sit there with a front row seat to watch it. Horrible decision by the AD to schedule that game and a great recruiting opportunity for Eds.I think the question is if it is getting worse, better or staying about the same. 9 positions? Wow.Stow has issues that go beyond football.
I think Larlham’s great too! Do you want this position for him based on this thread going deep into the administrative issues? I think it’s a black hole… and until that’s fixed Larlham is the next Poder at Stow… the fall guy for other issues.Love to see Dan get the job, he did a great job at CVCA and got stiffed by SVSM (sorry Clark), great fit he lives in Stow also.
Always better if the admin get's their crap together??I think Larlham’s great too! Do you want this position for him based on this thread going deep into the administrative issues? I think it’s a black hole… and until that’s fixed Larlham is the next Poder at Stow… the fall guy for other issues.
Agree. The next guy will be the next fall guy and so on.I think Larlham’s great too! Do you want this position for him based on this thread going deep into the administrative issues? I think it’s a black hole… and until that’s fixed Larlham is the next Poder at Stow… the fall guy for other issues.
