Really? Interesting, thank you for that. The Lexington QB was being recruited as an athlete and will probably play TE in college.

On the MSU recruiting page he is listed as a TE. For Lexington he hardly ever comes off the field playing multiple positions in every game.Really? Interesting, thank you for that.

He is a big strong kid. Throws a good ball. Has a lot of carries every game. Plays linebacker and sometime lines up as a D end. Then 1.5 committed QBs, I saw him sling it at OSU last year assumed he was QB only, had some serious arm talent.
Heard Purdue is looking for defense.I saw on another site that Purdue was at Lex to talk to Joey Caudill possibly looking at him for another position. I know he's committed to Michigan State but if Purdue is looking for him at quarterback could that sway him?
On the surface this sounds great for a league, but in truth some of these D1 offers can be misleading. I saw a one particular school had 23 scholarships available but had made offers to 437 offers to players in one class. 50 of those were to kids without a specific position and just listed at athletes. What this tells me is the value of getting a verbal offer in D1 football is on the decline, because if you turn to the coach and verbally say "I accept" they will tell you to wait and see what the others 20 players in you classification do. Unless you are at the top of their list.Yes he’s a ranked TE commit to MSU.
OCC now has 5 D1 offered players and a few more D2. I’m sure there will be more. I see a lot of action with a New Philadelphia WR and Ashland LB.
The portal doesn't help either. On the surface this sounds great for a league, but in truth some of these D1 offers can be misleading. I think the portal is a bigger benefit to the big time programs. They can get a veteran player or five and make an immediate impact. Most high school kids are a 2-3 year project at a big program, and that's only if you can hold on to them. Some kids may only be recruited as a scout team player. The hard truth is if you are a 3* or less player and have a verbal offer from and FBS D1 school, you are an scout team/insurance object to make sure they get a spot filled. Specially if you are recruited as an ATHLETE. If you try to commit early most coaches will ask you to wait to see the action of other players ranked above you. So the offer really is contingent upon 6-7 other guys not taking it. Plus, some players are getting these bogus offers in their freshman year. It can be very misleading. The portal doesn't help either.
I agree all offers are not the same and most do not mean much. They see a little something and throw out the verbal offer just to keep you on the radar until a better prospect comes around.I think the portal is a bigger benefit to the big time programs. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. The court case not being settled has to be rough and coaches and recruits this year. The covid guys moving out should free up some space, but if the roster limits are approved, it may not make much a difference.A wrinkle that should be considered for the portal is that the covid eligibility players should be rolling off the docket this season. That was putting a downward pressure for a while. Who wouldn't take a defined, stable 23-24 year old vs an incoming freshman without blockbuster potential?
The other matter with the portal are the optics we don't quite see. It's one thing when P5 guys are dancing amongst those programs, it's another when guys are pushed out or trying to get some meaningful reps when it doesn't work out at the level they were brought into.
For my actual opinion, I would think coaches start recognizing that the portal legends who hop every year aren't worth the effort. Those NIL donors are going to start scrutinizing their returns one day.
