Thought it was time to open up a new thread for the 2025 season.
What are your predictions for the MVL in 2025? Who’s going to be the surprise of the league? Can Xenia successfully replaced the QB and Ronnie Butler? Will Greenville come close to a win this season? Can Tipp’s young team be better than last year? Where does Troy go from here? They played in a lot of close games last year, but they also loose some really key players, will they be above .500? Can Sidney take the next step with the talent they have? Same question I have for Stebbins. With all the D1 talent they’ve had, you’d think the wins would start coming. It will be another great season

Preseason rankings:
1. Tipp

2. Xenia
3. Butler

4. Sidney
5. Troy
6. Piqua

7. Stebbins
8. Fairborn

9. West Carrolton

10. Greenville

Strictly off looking at the MVL website and seeing who has their top scorers coming back, I'll go:
1. Tipp- Going to be the best until someone knocks them off
2. Butler
3. Xenia- Big shoes to fill after graduation
4. Troy
5. Sidney- Looks like they lost a lot
6. Stebbins- Not sure how good they will be, but they have a decent amount coming back
7. Piqua- Sounds like the program overall is in a decline with no help coming
8. Fairborn
9. West Carrollton
10. Greenville- Can they find their Bobby Boucher to give them a chance?

1. Tipp - Best QB in the league returning with many pieces around him returning as well. Plus "in Burgbacher we trust" till proven otherwise.
2. Xenia - Best RB in the league with 3 out of 5 returning lineman. Fishwick is back as well, big time athlete and target in pass game.
3. Butler - Returns top RB and builds on the momentum of the last couple seasons.
4. Troy - Return QB (top rusher as well), top WR and many defensive pieces. Manson is a loss(emotional heart of team)
5. Stebbins - Return QB, RB, and 3 young WR. Need to see improvement on Def, but they out score some teams.
6. Fairborn - Return a bunch and 3 season with the same coach. Surprise pick here
7. Sidney - Lost entire Offense and Defense needs tons of help.
8. Piqua - Losing Burns at RB is big(almost the whole Off) Don't see any help coming in. Feel bad for Nees to end this way.
9. West Carrollton - new coach will be lucky to win a game that is not Greenville.
10. Greenville - New coach again. Program has no direction and looks to be zero wins again.

You could interchange Xenia, Butler, Troy IMO but this is how I think it will go, minus injuries or transfers

Besides having the best QB in the league, the big thing for Tipp is that they are returning 5 guys who have starting experience on the OL. Plus their leading rusher, second leading receiver, and TE, as well as an all state caliber Linebacker. The one area of concern will probably be the secondary, even though they do return 2 starters there. I don’t think Tipp will be as deep as they were last year, and replacing a guy like Jackson Davis is almost impossible, but Will Strong has the ability to do what Jackson Davis did if he stays healthy. Week 1 at Bellbrook will be a big litmus test.

I think it’ll go pretty similar to last year. But it is very clearly

Tippecanoe and Everyone else.

I forsee Tipp winning big in most league games this year, might be a hot take but I actually think Troy can take 2nd place this year.

How is everyone’s non conference game looking? I know Tipp is playing Bellbrook and I would assume Xenia and Beavercreek will be a week 1 game until the end of time. Any other interesting week 1 games?

Stebbins is playing Carroll this year, renewing the rivalry after a 6 year pause. Carroll with a new coach, Alumni Mike Pomfret, with experience as HC in TX and college.

Can Fairborn turn the corner under Cox? They’ve now got some of the best facilities in the league, and finally some stability. Can they reach .500? Not sure what they have coming back. I think Xenia will still be the second best team in the league. They probably have an 8-2 floor with the RB returning and a pretty good OL. They also have a D1 WR in Fishwick, however, replacing a 4 year starter at QB is going to be tough. Does anyone know who their QB is going to be and what kind of skills he can bring to the table?
On another note, I’m excited to see what Larkin Thomas can do with a year of maturity under his belt. He has the potential to be the best QB this league has seen and all state potential. Can he live up to that?

Fairborn has a good amount coming back. QB1, RB1, WR2, 3 of the Top 5 lineman and 3 of their top 5 tacklers. This is Larry's year to break out, the highly touted freshman class from 22 are now seniors and have had 3 years in the system. I think 5-5 is something that should be expected.

Xenia QB should be soph Gage Stephan and is sort of a carbon copy of McManus and will be as good as the running game allows him to be. If they can run the ball and use play action they will be fine. If the RB can get close to what he did last season then they will be playing for an MVL championship again.

Thomas could be scary good this season. If Tipp stays healthy it could be another 10-0 regular season and a chance to make a run in playoffs. Only thing is other teams have an entire offseason to adjust and figure out how to take away what Thomas does well, quick game, moving the pocket. I thought Troy did a good job against Tipp this year.

from 2-8 there's still a lot of questions.
Butler needs to put on a great defensive performance each week to play the kind of football Geuth likes to play. Losing the most complete O-line in the MVL will hurt them. Moeller should be slightly better than Reckner last year but the run game is TBT. 6-4 incoming?
Xenia should be solid, lots of experience, but the QB plays a major factor. They should lean on the run game, early and often. Id expect some lower scoring games to start their year. Still, White is a man. he's going to run for 2,000 this year and be POY again. 8-2 / 9-1 for sure. I don't see them being able to stop Tipp, even though on paper they should be able to hang, but their structure has foundational cracks.
Troy is going to be a big question mark. They've not shown they can successfully put up points against the top talent in the league, and always seem to come up short in big games. Unless they've got a bell cow, and even then, Everhart hasn't been impressive against winning teams. Losing Manson is a big blow, there's not a RB on their roster to fill that void. So unless they change the offense to take advantage of spacing, Kirkpatrick will have to take games over from under center - something that has proven hard. 6-4 / 7-3 at best
Piqua doesn't look to be any better. The combinations of not having a QB to lead the team, an OC who has trouble dialing anything up with efficiency, a soft Offensive line, and limited skill players - this has another disaster season written all over it. The defense should be okay, but they lose some guys in key spots that will make stopping the run a tough task. Not to mention their DB's being some of the most unathletic in the league. You can't imagine this will go on forever, hard to see Nees going less that .500 AGAIN, but 3-7 is on the way.
Sidney is going to have a rough year as well, they lose anybody that produced for them AND the program seems to be deteriorating right in front of us. THE BEST offense and THE WORST defense last year is not a good combination when you lose all that production offensively. Taynor and the bees are looking at a freight train...there's probably not much that stops them from going 4-6
Stebbins could be the the surprise of the year. They have a VERY talented backfield! McConnell could easily make the argument for best back in the league, he just has to run behind an Offensive Line that struggles. McCormick is legit, but reckless. IF, big IF, they can get their stuff together defensively (which was horrendous last year) they've got a chance to sneak a couple games out, I still don't think they're close to winning the league and they'll most likely be 5-5 / 6-4. BUT IF they can catch both Butler and Sidney slacking early, 7 wins is not off the table. - Though, it would be very surprising.

While I do think Tipp will be the best in the league year, I just don’t see them going unbeaten in conference. Everybody will be coming at Tipp with the best they got and Tipp is not invincible. I think the odds of a 10-0 regular season is even lower because Bellbrook is a team that can compete for a regional title. If Tipp goes to Bellbrook and beats them then maybe I could see Tipp running the table in the regular season. However even as last year showed, they needed a late miracle to beat Troy, and very well could have lost to Xenia. I think Tipp actually has to play at Xenia again this year, which is weird if it is the case. I just don’t know how you can replace Jackson Davis and his ability to take over a game.

I believe there is a rotation so that you don't have the same schedule year in and out. Many teams have to go back to back Away / Home trips, which will be alternated with the next rotation in the schedule. - in the long run it evens itself out.

1) Tipp- you are the champ until someone takes it from you.
2) Xenia- they have a bunch coming back on defense and the RB is terrific
3) Butler- if the defense plays well they can beat anyone

After that who knows

Here’s my way too early preseason poll:

1. Tippecanoe
2. Troy
3. Xenia
4. Butler
5. Stebbins
6. Fairborn
7. Piqua
8. Sidney
9. WC
10. Greenville

2-4 is a toss up. 5-8 is also a complete toss up.

Greenville will be lucky if they keep any league game from a running clock.

Potential upsets?

Can one of Troy, Xenia or Butler beat Tipp? Could WC beat another MVL team that isn’t Greenville? Stebbins over one of Xenia or Butler?

Wow, I think that is a pretty good hire if everything turns out well, I think Steve is a good football coach but off the field stuff has hurt him in the past.

This is a huge win for Greenville if true. I know he has his detractors, mostly for off field issues, but he will get Greenville running a solid offense that will give them a chance to be successful year in and year out. Hopefully they give him control of the program and AD can stay out of the way.

Is Sidney for position coaches? There has been lots of coaching changes there since Traynor got there. He could use a better defense for sure.

Sidney graduates most of their skill positions, especially the QB will be tough to replace for whoever takes over as head coach. Numbers were low in last years junior and freshman classes so hopefully the new coach can increase the roster size, otherwise depth will be an issue. No question that roster size helps as long as the players put in the time and effort in the weight room and on the practice field.

Taynor wasn't the homerun many thought he would be. Is he jumping ship before it sinks with all the graduates? Is it me or does Sidney seem to underperform for the talent they have on the team. I see this job as a "better than people think" type of job. Any chance they convince Adam Doenges to come back?

If Doenges had been the coach the last two years New would have been the tight end instead of setting school records at QB. Despite the win-loss record Taynor brought discipline to the program. The seniors this year was a good solid class, but the 3 classes behind them have never had much success in football , so quality depth was an issue, so you end up playing guys who should be playing JV. Unless you play everyone both ways it's hard to be competitive with the better teams. Whoever the next coach is people need to have some patience until the talent level improves.

To be fair New didn't play QB till week 9 of 2023, I believe due to injury, so it took Taynor time to see it as well. Taynor did bring an offensive system that used Sidney's weapons well. Also heard there was alot of complaining from people on the Facebook post of him stepping down. That can't help with outside hires. Sidney has some of the best facilities in the MVL that should help get a good coach in.

I'm feeling genuinely optimistic about Greenville. Maybe not instant success, but to finally get things moving forward. We'll see how it goes.
