Thought it was time to open up a new thread for the 2025 season.
What are your predictions for the MVL in 2025? Who’s going to be the surprise of the league? Can Xenia successfully replaced the QB and Ronnie Butler? Will Greenville come close to a win this season? Can Tipp’s young team be better than last year? Where does Troy go from here? They played in a lot of close games last year, but they also loose some really key players, will they be above .500? Can Sidney take the next step with the talent they have? Same question I have for Stebbins. With all the D1 talent they’ve had, you’d think the wins would start coming. It will be another great season
Preseason rankings:
1. Tipp
2. Xenia
3. Butler
4. Sidney
5. Troy
6. Piqua
7. Stebbins
8. Fairborn
9. West Carrolton
10. Greenville
from 2-8 there's still a lot of questions.
Butler needs to put on a great defensive performance each week to play the kind of football Geuth likes to play. Losing the most complete O-line in the MVL will hurt them. Moeller should be slightly better than Reckner last year but the run game is TBT. 6-4 incoming?
Xenia should be solid, lots of experience, but the QB plays a major factor. They should lean on the run game, early and often. Id expect some lower scoring games to start their year. Still, White is a man. he's going to run for 2,000 this year and be POY again. 8-2 / 9-1 for sure. I don't see them being able to stop Tipp, even though on paper they should be able to hang, but their structure has foundational cracks.
Troy is going to be a big question mark. They've not shown they can successfully put up points against the top talent in the league, and always seem to come up short in big games. Unless they've got a bell cow, and even then, Everhart hasn't been impressive against winning teams. Losing Manson is a big blow, there's not a RB on their roster to fill that void. So unless they change the offense to take advantage of spacing, Kirkpatrick will have to take games over from under center - something that has proven hard. 6-4 / 7-3 at best
Piqua doesn't look to be any better. The combinations of not having a QB to lead the team, an OC who has trouble dialing anything up with efficiency, a soft Offensive line, and limited skill players - this has another disaster season written all over it. The defense should be okay, but they lose some guys in key spots that will make stopping the run a tough task. Not to mention their DB's being some of the most unathletic in the league. You can't imagine this will go on forever, hard to see Nees going less that .500 AGAIN, but 3-7 is on the way.
Sidney is going to have a rough year as well, they lose anybody that produced for them AND the program seems to be deteriorating right in front of us. THE BEST offense and THE WORST defense last year is not a good combination when you lose all that production offensively. Taynor and the bees are looking at a freight train...there's probably not much that stops them from going 4-6
Stebbins could be the the surprise of the year. They have a VERY talented backfield! McConnell could easily make the argument for best back in the league, he just has to run behind an Offensive Line that struggles. McCormick is legit, but reckless. IF, big IF, they can get their stuff together defensively (which was horrendous last year) they've got a chance to sneak a couple games out, I still don't think they're close to winning the league and they'll most likely be 5-5 / 6-4. BUT IF they can catch both Butler and Sidney slacking early, 7 wins is not off the table. - Though, it would be very surprising.
