2025 CHL football preview/discussion thread!

Finneytown announced Koury Johnson as their new head coach.

Previously an assistant at Hughes amongst other schools.

The MVC is accepting applications for potential league expansion according to WCPO's Mike Dyer.

Let's see if FT and DP decide to pull the trigger on a move.

Schools have until April 15th to submit an official letter of interest.

That’s really surprising that the MVC would want to expand. MVC already has 14 schools Going to a 3 pod system helps with those numbers, but still not sure why they would want to add.

If you're old enough to remember Tecmo Bowl on the original Nintendo then you'll recognize his name. I think Willie was his uncle.
Oh my, Ole #26 is a football legend in Vol Nation. I love the John Ward call of him hitting a KO return against Vanderbilt.

just looked at Josiah's stats from last year, he will be someone to watch...can't wait. Now, can he push a bobsled like his uncle? lol

I don't love the idea of moving conferences because of an inability to win. I understand moving to a conference with similar enrollment sizes as you are much smaller than the rest of the conference. They make divisions for a reason. But I don't think the reason to move is to find easier competition. A few years back people talked about Princeton needing to leave the GMC because they were so bad, now they won the conference.

Deer Park is the smallest school in the league and Finneytown is losing students at a rate that will put them just above Deer Park as the second-smallest within a short matter of time. Both districts are closed so neither has an avenue to boost enrollment at the moment.

Despite whatever socio-economic similarities FT and DP may share with a school like Princeton, the reality is that the best athletes from these schools (especially Finneytown) often leave for the likes of Princeton (and Winton Woods, and St X, and Moeller, and Roger Bacon, and LaSalle, and so on and so on) for better athletic opportunities.

The student-athletes who remain deserve to compete on a more level playing field against the likes of Lockland, St. Bernard, Norwood, NCH, Clark Montessori, Shroder, etc. If a team/program has a particularly promising group then they can schedule tougher/bigger schools during their non-conference games, but that is a going to be a rare exception for the overwhelming majority of them.

I am a strong proponent for both schools to join the MVC.

I dont disagree!

I did some looking at SID's over the past couple years and really to be honest FT or DP don't really fair any better vs MVC competition (from the Gray div.) as what they do now.

football-
CCD Beat DP 39-14
SBEP beat FT 28-6

basketball
MVCA beat DP
SBEP beat DP
Lockland beat FT

FT beat SBEP and DP beat Lockland

With the MVC having 7 gray and 7 scarlet IF both FT and DP get in I would think one goes to each division? DP would likely go to the Scarlet having them face CHCA , Roger Bacon, Purcell ect ect. (norwood and NCH yea that will compete against)

I would think there are pro's and con's to the move for both. IMO seems more logical for FT over DP but I def think both will apply.

I don't know the details of the Princeton turn around, but they have built some amazing facilities. Buildings don't make great teams, but I'm sure they have helped recruit and keep talent there. I don't know if any big plans to upgrade DP or Finneytown. Hopefully Finneytown's new coach can get kids out because it seems like they are in danger of not being able to field a team.

I don't know about CCD, but I'm pretty confident that DP would be able to compete with everyone else in the grey division. Finneytown would probably be able to win one or two conference games as well, in my opinion.

It’s shocking to me what has happened to Finneytown since I was in school in the 1970s. They competed well with Oak Hills were I went and many other large schools like Mt. Healthy, Anderson and others. Even as late as 20 years ago they won 4 consecutive CHL track championships which you can’t do without a group of athletes. Sad to see.

MVC just announced they are taking applications until April 15th. Any chance a couple of schools make the jump?

Hearing a rumor that Finneytown and Washington Court House are working out a deal to play week 3 this upcoming season. I would have to imagine this will be a one year deal, maybe two at the absolute max, I just don’t see that being a series that lasts very long due to travel. Overall, Washington CH is a bit down so maybe Finneytown will have a chance to compete with them.
Not a chance!!!

We ALL know Deer Park has hired people in the past that will help "boost" enrollment regardless if they are open enrollment or not :sneaky:

they also deal with kids leaving though. Arguably their best 8th grade FB player is going to Moeller next year.

This has been in the works for over a year. Looks like the I's have been dotted and T's have been crossed.

I would think, moving these two over would also create a need to 'realign' the conference. Who knows who is moving out. It's been quite a few months since I've heard anything but Summit was ready to come into the CHL - all it took was approval. CCD supposedly would follow Summit as they were on the fence. The appeal of both of those schools are the country club sports and Lacrosse

Seems like CHCA would be a better fit.

IF those 2 were to move I can promise you that CHCA wouldn’t hang around. I’m not a fan of CHCA, but they have the best overall athletics program.

As I’ve written previously, I think the MVC will split within a couple years with private schools breaking away.

New conf:
Lockland
NCH
St Bernard
Clark
Deer Park
FT
New Miami
Norwood

There is a thread out there called "Worst Football Games I've Seen", this conference would quickly overtake that thread on a weekly basis.

How does that work with SCD and CCD both being private schools? Does it matter?
