I posted this cause it's nice to have a specific reference as opposed to a general idea of schools' relative size. But also to ask #1 - at what point does the CHL add D3 to its wide range of divisions? I know IH and Taylor lose kids to privates in HS but is it enough to keep them in D4 for the foreseeable future? And #2 - when/if ever does Finneytown join DP in division 6 (or even stay open - hear they have significant financial issues)?

The easy answer is Taylor would be the next in the next 5-10 years.

Do to our geographic makeup. You can drive up Bridgetown or out East Miami and see tons of undeveloped land that in time i am sure will become a new subdivision (as that has been the trend the past 2+ decades)

Most of the newer subdivisions in our district (the newest being Indian walk by drees) has houses starting in the 300k and up range. Alot of those people moving in do send their kids to private school, but not all.

The biggest "hit" for our district is the recent announcement of Lanex (the old Bayer plant) closing soon. (Hopefully another company comes in and just puts a new name on the front door like in the past. BUT if not that's going to he a HUGE tax revenue hit to our district in the coming years.

If the reason they gave for closing was legit I wouldn’t expect a new owner to continue production. They said the entire plant was obsolete and wasn’t worth updating. The timing was suspect tho, right after the train car fire. The district survived the loss of the refinery and most of the revenue from the power plant. I think they will find a way.

I believe the train car had ALOT to do with it.
Even when it was Bayer they had said the same things. Lanex came in and put like 25 million into it back in 04-05 time frame.

I buy a TON of polymer products for work and alot of the refining and raw material comes out of that plant. 🤞 someone keeps it rolling

Something similar happened to New Richmond in the early 2010's when the Beckjord power plant announced it's closer and the Monroe power plant was devalued by about 33% of it's previous worth. Throughout the 1980's-2000's, New Richmond was one of the 10 wealthiest school districts in the state of Ohio (would have never known) in terms of tax revenue generated by having 2 power plants in the district. Within a span of 5 years from the announcement of Beckjord closing, New Richmond lost approx 60% of their tax funding from community businesses. They ended up closing an elementary and put a tax levy on the ballot in 2018 for the first time since the early 1970s - about 45 years w/o the need for any levies. CRAZY.

This was why the Beckjord plant closed. The cost to update to meet modern EPA standards and then when they leaked a massive amount of oil and pollutants into the Ohio River (you can make a strong argument this might have been done purposefully), the cleanup was too much a hit to overcome so they closed. I believe the state is in the process of turning the area into a nature preserve - similar to what happened w/ the Fernald plant and property.

Taylor and New Richmond used to get 100% of the property tax from the power plants. Back in the early 2009s the state changed the law so that the tax revenues were shared by all districts that the generated power was distributed to. The power plant in Taylors district is still operating but they get a fraction of the taxes they used to.
The plastics plant in Addyston will still generate property tax for the district tho I’m sure it will be devalued at some point if it stays closed. The village losing the income tax was the biggest impact of the closing.

Hearing a rumor that Finneytown and Washington Court House are working out a deal to play week 3 this upcoming season. I would have to imagine this will be a one year deal, maybe two at the absolute max, I just don’t see that being a series that lasts very long due to travel. Overall, Washington CH is a bit down so maybe Finneytown will have a chance to compete with them.

Washington CH isn't down, they are traditionally an average team - some good; some bad years but overall have hovered around .500. I still think a bad Court House team has a running clock coming out of halftime against Finneytown.

IH will be interesting this year. Best player in league playing QB. Decent senior class. Nothing underneath as St X/Moeller/Elder have taken all the young talent the last two years. Daniel alone is probably enough to beat most teams in this conference.

Washington CH is capable of being a decent team, and overall 5-5 is about what they do every year, you are right. I guess you can say they aren’t down as their record might not be totally telling as their non-conference schedule these past few years have been very difficult to borderline brutal especially for a young team like them. Chances are they do probably run Finneytown off the field, but maybe Finneytown can make it somewhat interesting? We will see. I really don’t know what Finneytown brings back this year or how they will look. I’m guessing they won’t be much better.

Who has IH lost to Elder?

I agree. The bottom half of the league is just bad. I hope the young man stays healthy. He’s going to have a heavy workload. It will be interesting to see what happens with the program after he graduates. With how common kids transfer these days, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those kids who chose X/Moeller after attending IH MS end up coming back if/when they don’t play there.

Will IH field a JV team next season? Heard there are only three freshman staying.
They are losing quite a few from the 8th grade, but I think they will have more than 3. I would expect to see 5-8 freshmen next year. They only had 5 seniors who saw regular minutes last season, so I would expect the roster to be similar in size. There is definitely a focus to make sure the young guys get reps so I would expect them to play a full JV schedule. With the small numbers they had last year JV ended up 7-1-1.

Kids leaving IH blows my mind. It’s one of the top schools in the state. Moeller and X are fine schools but they are not better than IH. And I can’t believe all those IH parents are desperate for some pie-in-the-sky hope of an athletic scholarship. It’s comical.

Living in the IH school district but deciding to pay for private school seems like a waste of money, but maybe that’s JMO

They’ve got more money than brains.
Agreed. Its ridiculous.

IH has the best coaching staff in the region, potentially in the state. State championships and multiple former head coaches/coordinators on staff. With Rodenberg's deep connection to the youth program, which he has built since day one of joining program, once you get through a few of these 8th grade parents with stars in their eyes everyone will stay.

They aren't coming back.

People always assume a kids leaves because of sports. While kids leaving may play sports, that doesn't mean other factors don't contribute to leaving. Maybe their middle school experience was terrible and they want to get away from people that made it terrible. Maybe they have older kids that had a bad experience in high school and they want their younger child to have a different experience. Maybe its a combination of the previous 2 things. I can't speak for Moeller, but I know kids that have attended IH and X and they've told me X is better than IH hands down.

Hope this isn't true. Finneytown needs to schedule all three out-of-conference games against teams at the bottom of the MVC, SBAAC and CMAC. They have no business playing any half-competent D4 program.

Why they didn’t renew with CNE is absolutely beyond me (CNE is still open in week 3). That’s a perfect game for where both programs are at. Washington CH will probably not be that good this year, but as others have stated it’ll be a blowout still in favor of WCH… WCH was going to play Brookville week 3 originally but I think Brookville dropped them for someone else.
