2025 Canton McKinley Football Season

I don't want to disparage the young man, but his grades were suspect for a while. BG took a chance on him because of his immense talent and potential. To his credit, he made the most of his opportunity. By all accounts, he's come a long way and done everything right up there. He could've transferred to any school in thr country but stayed loyal to BG because they took a chance on him.
You have to respect that, you don't see loyalty in a lot of todays youth.

Props to the young man for his loyalty

Just to follow up on this, here is an in-depth article about Fannin, including some info about how he ended up at BG and why he stayed there.

Great story. It’s hard not to root for him after reading that. I remember one guy on here asking about where Fannin was going to school every week after National Signing Day. 3 years later and that poster doesn’t post here any longer and Harold is preparing for the NFL draft. How quickly things change.

Also, it’s hard to believe no one from the P5 schools wanted him after his outstanding 2023 season.

Considering he stayed loyal to the only school that gave him a shot and never put his name in the portal, we'll never know the answer. What we do know is that Fannin would go on to become consensus All American the next season and statistically had probably the best season ever for an FBS tight end.
Oh, ok.

Harold Fannin JR was at the NFL Scouting Combine yesterday. He ran the 6th fastest time in the 40 for the TE group at 4.71. He also had the 3rd fastest 10 yard split, 0.01 seconds slower than the fastest.
Fannin had the 2nd highest NGS (Next Gen Stats) Production Score out of the invited Tight Ends behind only Penn State's Tyler Warren.

Only Tyler Warren had a better NGS score? Now THAT'S impressive to say the least.

FYI: Now that McKinley's boys basketball season has concluded, Coach Parnell will address the Bulldog Luncheon Club tomorrow, March 10, at Michael D's, 11 a.m. All McKinley fans are welcome to attend.

Did this take place today? Five hours ago and not a single comment?
Yes, it did. Not too much to report from that (it was essentially a meet and greet with a group of regulars), but see below for what I can remember off the top of my head.

More newsworthy is this: the school board unanimously approved Open Enrollment tonight.

In Regards to the luncheon with Parnell, off the top of my head:

- School Board Pres Scott Russ announced that Open Enrollment would be voted on later in the day.

- Parnell said his staff is about 90 percent set. The offense will be handled by Drew Sarachman (former OC at Hoban). Joe Ewell (co-OC at Benedictine last year) and Daryl Moore, a former Hoban coach. Parnell said he would also have input on offense.

- Parnell said he was pleasantly surprised by the attitude of a lot of the kids. He said they had been "phenomenal."

- He said there is plenty of work to be done in the weight room but was excited to have former Hoban/Benedictine strength coach Mike Winkler on board.

-- He said he envisions a multiple offense predicated on a strong running game and down field passing.

-- The base defense will be 4-2-5 (Note: in a hurry, I originally wrote 3-2-5. Oops)

-- He said his goal is to play a national schedule like Hoban down the line. (He did not give a time frame.)

-- His 8th-grade son (a baseball phenom currently at Jackson) will attend McK next year and play football.

Hope they adjust the 3-2-5 and add one more to the field - 11 is the norm on defense

***lives in Jackson - great - I am sure he will really be able to relate to the parents of Canton City
Lol, Oops I was in a hurry and never good at Math. He said 4-2-5. My mistake. Not the first or last.

He grew up in Akron City and went to Garfield and later coached there before Hoban, and he wanted to coach inner city, so, yeah, I imagine he will be able to relate to the parents of Canton City. He certainly doesn't strike me as a guy who forgets from where he came; I wouldn't hold his professional success against him.

Thanks for the updated information.👌

I was posting in jest about the 4-2-5, I knew what you meant.

But the second part is spin, whether it is from me, or you - it is spin
So, I'm not being pissy on the second one; I just don't understand what you mean by spin. He did, in fact, grow up in Akron City, attend Garfield and later coach there. It doesn't seem like spin to surmise that his background will allow him to relate to inner-city kids (he was one) and parents (his parents were). Again, I'm not being a jerk here; I just don't see the spin there. Anyways, Go Pups! lol

while others may surmise other things = that is the spin - your opinion

Hey did he happen to talk about hiring frosh HC and the guy already quit? Simmons was it?
ah, ok, I guess I don't equate spin to opinion. Yes, that is my opinion.

He did not talk about a Frosh HC (and I meant to ask). I do know that Simmons didn't quit; he was relieved of his duties after accepting the position. I do not know why, other than it was not generally considered a good fit.

who did not consider it a good fit? Who is already pressuring or generally considering things to make changes to HCs call?
Can't be HC or he would not have hired him in first place.

Yes I applaud you for being positive and yes you are putting a positive spin on things.
I expected more from the change so it would be fair to say you are positive while I am putting a jaded spin on things.
Yeah, I don't know any details, but Simmons himself told someone I know that people complained about him being the FR head coach and he was told they're going to go another direction. I don't have any more info than that. As optimistic as I am, that's not a good look.

All good news I am worried about JV and Freshman coaching as well as Canton Midget football, hopefully he'll be hands on....BAM!

Agree, the JV and Freshman coaching positions are critical. Not clear on what the issues are on filling those coaching positions, but hopefully they can be resolved quickly and effectively.
