Desales and Hartley are 80% plus filled with voucher now. This isn't a secret.
I'll stand by the 35-40% . I met with DeSales Staff this past school year and was given the numbers in writing. But i could see it continuing to grow and that was part of the discussion.

You have no clue what constitutes a voucher student. EVERYONE is a voucher student now. If Les Wexner’s family wanted to they would get voucher money. How bout ya go do some research, educate yourself, then return to make an argument.

2017 was Coach Kennedy’s first year as head coach at Watterson. 2017 was the reason the score was what it was in 2024. Any good coach or player never forgets those who slighted them along the way & use that to drive them to greatness. When the time comes to return the favor, never hesitate to oblige. Had nothing to do with Day or Brown or McAllister or any other DeSales starter that came up through the Watterson feeder program or grew up in the Watterson footprint but magically ended up at DeSales. As others have said Day wouldn’t have started at Watterson until his senior year. I’m sure that was a big factor in the family’s decision to pursue DeSales.

Well stated.. I am not a Waterson guy, but definitely don’t hate seeing them beat up on Desales. Ryan Day is making a mockery of that program right now running 7 on 7s, hiring coaches, bringing the team down to the Woody Hayes to coach them, ect. It is truly embarrassing (and probably illegal) for both Desales and Ohio State in my opinion. All of this after he basically made the diocese allow his son to go to Desales which isn’t their home School so he could play varsity sooner rather than later.

I’m not following you here. Why is it embarrassing for DeSales for any of that to be going on? If he is helping out during 7v7s is DeSales supposed to say no thanks to one of the highest paid coaches in the country? If the players get the opportunity to practice at the Woody what is embarrassing about that? I don’t know what your job is but let’s say you’re a financial planner……if Warren Buffett or another top financial mind wanted to come help out your company would you refuse? If some of your employees went to his offices to learn…..would that be making a mockery and an embarrassment to your company?
Daddy ball is daddy ball I don’t care who you are and maybe the fact it is illegal to have high school kids on campus training them? I am sure it is cool for the kids of Desales but let’s see if this pans out. He has literally hand picked coaches to coach his son. They will still lose by 30+ to Watterson, go 8-2 or whatever with that below average schedule and get bounced 1st or 2nd round.
Comparing him to Warren Buffet is laughable by the way.

Yeah I’m not saying he’s the best coach in America…I just pulled a recognizable name outta my a…. They may lose to Watty by 30 but I also can recognize this is a historically good Watty team. This isn’t normal for that program and the band wagon fans talking trash were nowhere to be found when Watty was worse than DeSales has ever been just a few short years ago. Many were on here saying they were finished as a program because they no longer had the football playing demographics. “Below average schedule” is very interesting. Besides 2 of the strongest Columbus City League programs who in that schedule is below average? Did you do some research before pounding keys

“Isn’t normal for that program” - are you serious?? Watterson has won three state championships since 2000, please remind everyone how many DeSales has won in that timeframe. There is an ebb and flow to every program, the reports of Watterson’s demise were greatly exaggerated.

3 in 25 years is great and better than almost any other program could hope for. What isn’t normal is back to back state finals appearances and now being the favorite to win it again….thats what I meant by not normal. This is the historic peak thus far of Watterson’s program in the playoff era
Watterson has been playing Daddyball with the sons of Ohio state a lot longer than desales has.
It’s wacky to this this century Watterson and Hartley have 3 state titles each while Desales has zero.
I will get back to you on the schedule once I found it. Watterson and I am sure Olentangy Berlin week 1 since they played last year who is obviously a solid program (The 2 losses) but then I am guessing a city league team or 2, a few average out of area teams, St. Charles, Ready and Hartley with a new coach.

Badin (above average) Harrison (Watty stomped last year but definitely an above average team), George Rogers out of Lexington (above average,some D1 guys), Northland, Africentric (winning records and playoff teams so above average….barely) Chuck’s (you know), no Ready, and Hartley (?). The only clearly below average team is also on Watty’s schedule. Plus Watty and Berlin
careful there . its a known fact Wattersons wrestling program has taken the same liberty's with the OSU Wrestlers and Staffs. 3 ex Osu wrestlers on staff and a current OSU Staffer with kids in their feeder program .

I took some time off with a family vacation and this thread was active,. Here are a few thoughts/comments:
1) The actual td throw at the end of the game was actually an RPO. I talked to one of the Watterson off lineman. Why is Watty calling RPO??.......
2) I don't necessarily hate making the rivalry spicier. 3 years ago, Watty kids were cursed at and spit on as they walked through the Desales kids/fans to field pregame. Not condoning spiting but these things are what makes the game mean so much......
3) I don't know the whole back story on why Day went to DeSales. Maybe it was playing time wit AJ and now Drew ahead of him. So far, they are both better then RJ. Maybe it was due to friends going there (I had been told that). Maybe it was fact that besides 2022, watty had been mediocre for a decade and big Day wanted what he thought was bigger exposure. Who knows but IMO it doesn't upset me and most Watterson fans. Also, i saw comments about RJ day's D1 offers versus Bellisari's. I have watched they both and it's not close that 6'3 1/2 bellisari is better athlete and future potential at college level the RJ. RJ is extremely well coached. He makes great decisions with ball for a young kid but size and arm strength matter. If you don't think some of the "hype" on offers comes from his name and connections, I've got a brand new igloo to sell you in Alaska.
4) I think Watterson is far ahead of Desales for 2025 season in terms of talent. Maybe I'll eat these words later if wrong (I'm going kind of hard here) but IMO it won't be close. Watty's last 3 classes and the next 2 classes (soon to be seniors and juniors) were and are loaded. That said, freshman struggled last year (not 1 saw varsity time). I have no idea what the incoming freshman might be but even if it was a 5 year boom of talent, Kennedy has changed the culture and i cannot imagine 5-6 teams under his leadership.

There's a difference between a dad (who knows a thing or two about a particular sport) coaching and a dad who meddles on behalf of his kids. Several years ago Watterson's wrestling program was on life support. If it wasn't for Rowlands and Thatcher it might still be that way. As far as the current OSU dads on Watterson's football coaching staff it would be a pretty big leap to tag any of them with the daddy ball moniker. Sometimes those kids get the opportunity to see the field earlier than other kids but guess what? They're usually pretty good players due to their genetics and training. You also can't tell me that 20 years from now that if Jesse Mendez or Caleb Downs or Bruce Thornton's sons attend any high school in America that those kids aren't going to get a stronger look b/c of their last name and pedigree.
As far as Coach Day and Desales goes. If Coach Wiggins has an opening on his staff or wanted to change something with his offense or...he'd be stupid not to consult Ryan Day if Ryan Day was willing to share his advice. If Coach Day is coming into Wiggins' office and telling him to fire this coach and hire this coach or stepping out onto the field during a 7 v 7 uninvited and trying to coach his team then that's a problem but I have a really hard time believing Coach Day is doing those things. If you can provide specific examples of Coach Day overstepping then let's hear them. I've heard that he's maybe influenced some kids to transfer to Desales which, if true, I think is wrong but that's just hearsay.

torched? Won on a last second FG and he threw for under 180 yds. That's torched? Torched is 44-7 like watty did last season. Ran for almost 400 yds on what was billed to be an unstoppable force at Dline.
Below is AJ senior year stats and Drew's Junior year. Those are some high hurdles my friend to have played over as a freshman and soph
2023 AJ Mcaninch 2023 stats 3403 yds passing, 34 passing tds TDs, 5 rushing tds
2024 Drew Belisari 2024 stats 2238 yds, 31 passing tds, 14 rushing tds 776 yds rushing
Who called that Dline unstoppable ? LOl you just make crap up . i told you last year DeSales was on a major decline yet you boasted how they were a program on the rise just to be able to say stupid like you just did. I believe i came within a point or two of the final score a week before the game. i also pointed out they were very thin a lb as their returning starters Shulaw and Barford decided to not play fb to concentrate on wrestling.
and anyone who uses just stats to make a comparison especially at the HS level really doesn't understand the game. Mcanich had a cannon arm as his baseball pitching showed, But he can't hit worth a darn. and was never seriously considered a d1 fb prospect. Marshall BB is a good place for him.
Days stats for a frosh and soph. for the amount of passing his offense does were very good. enough to earn him all 1st team ccl honors in 2023 and 2nd team d2 all district honors in 2024
Your having a argument with yourself over if Day would start at your school so carry on. Bellisari Gardner Webb offer will be hard to overcome . this summer camps will be very important. he's rated more as a athlete than a QB .

You are acting as if I am saying Day isn't good. I'm not. He is good. I'm saying he wouldn't play at Watterson over these two guys and hence understood needed to go to a place where the coach would toss the existing QB (And best athlete on team) to side and let him go as freshman. Also, ALL CCL is chosen by each teams own coach so cmon.... Belisari just got 1st team all state and state title as TCC struggled with him as an ATHLETE.
I know you are cranky due to Desales now being the little brother but be realistic.
Everything you said makes sense. Day is average size, average arm, average athleticism and is a slightly above average quarterback due to his resources and Desales literally catering their program to him. Belisari is a significantly better quarterback and athlete. Why these college coaches are playing this game? Nobody knows.

Just curious as to why it always seems like Watty, Desales and Hartley are in the conversation when St. Charles is a bigger all boys school. I'm surprised that St. Charles isn't a top tier team like the rest of the Columbus Catholics. And a disclaimer I have no clue about St. Charles, just seems with the size they'd be a contender.
