2024 Cincinnati Bengals

That would Be a terrible pick. Sawyer & JTT have never lived up to their #2 & #3 rankings coming out of high achiol. They each are good players but are both 22-23, they should be dominant A 2nd round or 3rd round pick for Sawyer is more realistic.

For what it’s worth PFF has Sawyer ranked the 9th best edge (37th overall) and JTT the 10th best edge (41st overall)
I think both have elevated their stock with the second half of the season and especially the playoffs so far. But agreed that 17 would be overdrafting

The Bengals have holes all over the defense and can always use more OL help.

Updated PFF draft rankings there are 5 OTs ranked between 11th-20th overall on their board.

The most productive pass rusher sitting in the 10th-25th range on PFF’s board is UGA LB Jalon Walker; not sure schematically if that’s a fit but I think it’s a good indictment to steer clear of reaching for a DE and hoping for the best as with Murphy.

Benjamin Morrison (17th overall) would appear to be the best CB in range of their pick. Interior DL IMO is a lot better than the Edge with Kenneth Grant (22nd overall) and Tyliek Williams (27th overall, but IMO this is the OSU DL that will continue to climb up the boards).

My gut reaction as it stands would be either add another OT or pick one of those four defensive guys, assuming available.

Myles Murphy was drafted in the 1st. rd. (no.28) I think Sawyer much better DE than Murphy.

Sawyer may be better than Murphy but by all accounts Murphy has been a bust thus far. Still doesn’t justify drafting Sawyer in the 1st.

JTT had a great game against Penn State a couple of years ago and a big play late in the Notre Dame game last year but he just seems to disappear in some games. When Knowles came to OSU they tried Sawyer at the OLB/SS type of position in their 3-3-5 lineup but he didn’t do well. oSU moved back to a traditional 4-3 DE last year and he’s played better. These last few games Sawyer has definitely played the best in his career. Hopefully both have 2 good games left in them.

The Bengals didn't want anything to do with Mahomes.

The team that wasn't good enough to make the playoffs is feared by every team that was good enough to make the playoffs. Cincinnati homer fans logic.
Bengals would have been happy to just make the playoffs regardless of who they would have to play. But you are being a fool if you think the chiefs would rather not play Denver, than Joe Burrow.

Bengals need to get this draft right no more reaches (the Bengals are bad at it). No more Carman's, Murphy's, Samples, and I am not sold on Mims. Doubt very much Bengals draft another OT and they rarely if ever draft IOL in the 1st rd. So that leaves defense need to fix the D-Line, hopefully somebody good falls to 17th. Finishing 9-8 is the kiss of death in the NFL out of the playoffs but out of top 10 - 12 in draft. Hope some teams reach for QB's.

I think Mims is solid. Revamp entire D

What?! He’s been a fantastic pick and has the makings of a long tenured above average to great vet.

And get who?
Literally anyone who won’t go 1-11 in the first two weeks the the season over the last 5 years, essentially forcing the Bengals playoffs to start in weeks 16-18 instead of week 19.

Also, I’ve laid out who I’d be interested in earlier in this tread.

Vrabel would be option 1. I like the idea of Detroit’s OC Ben Johnson or Ravens’ OC Todd Monken, but after watching Ryan Day and Zach Taylor try to call plays just for it to blow up in their faces, I’m not sure I’m ready for that risk again.

Also intrigued by the idea of bringing Jesse Minter home and pairing him with a top OC. And ditto for Detroit’s DC Aaron Glenn.

The Bengals need to commit to keep Burrow protected, period. Until the front office does that, it will be the same no matter who the coaches are if you ask me.

If you write Mims off b/c of PFF, you are a fool. Anyone who watched or understands OL play would know that being a rookie and a starting Tackle in the NFL is a tough ask. Mims was supposed to learn behind 2 veterans this year but was thrust into action b/c of injury. He got better every week and the people who actually know and understand football know and saw this. they don't go by some PFF grade.

the OL problems this year were RG and LG. interior/face pressure is the hardest to deal with for a QB especially when it happens in 1 second lol. interior pressure makes the jobs of the tackles that much harder.

What do they go by yappi expert opinions like yours, I said I wasn't sold on his play based on this year didn't say I wrote him off.
Edit: Posters can have different opinions on subjects or in this case players, doesn't necessarily make one poster right or wrong.
