2024-25 Season General Discussion

Colorado St isn’t a bid stealer to me.
They should simply leave Boise State out since their offense looked as poorly conceived as I have ever witnessed in a legitimate D1 college program. They or another Mountain West team should pay the penalty for Colorado State getting the auto bid.

I’ll take Boise St over Texas and UNC. Maybe not IU.

You could be correct, I just lacked enthusiasm for an offense that repeatedly failed to attempt to work the ball inside, does not use screens or at least did not yesterday, and they lack a true point guard on the team.

Their little dribble drives failed to create space and left them simply throwing up a contested shot as time expired on the shot clock. Clearly they have had some success with that system this year.

Two potential bid stealers are still out there in UAB (AAC) and George Mason (A-10). Memphis is comfortably IN with a loss and VCU is a First Four/Last Four In team at-worst with a loss.

Assuming both favorites win, here is my prediction for the bubble:

Last Four Byes:
New Mexico
West Virginia
Vanderbilt
Utah St

Last Four In/First Four:
Oklahoma
San Diego St
Texas
Boise St

First Four Out:
UNC
Xavier
Indiana
Ohio St

Boise State has no business being in the tournament. OK, they beat Clemson early on, along with an OT win over Saint Mary’s. And they got hot down the stretch in a mediocre conference.

But they also have bad losses to San Francisco, Boston College and Washington State; lost twice to fellow bubble team San Diego State; and lost three times to Colorado State.

That is NOT a tournament team! And the MWC certainly isn’t good enough to support getting five teams in.

My last four in:
Arkansas
Xavier
San Diego State
North Carolina

First four out:
Texas
Indiana
Boise State
Ohio State

Bids:
SEC 13
Big Ten 8
Big 12 8
Big East 5
ACC 4
Mountain West 4
WCC 2
One-bid leagues 24

San Diego St is being carried by wins in Nov/Dec vs Houston & Creighton. There needs to be a metric to weight the 1st 10 games & last 10 games.

Michigan and Florida have done what I believe Hurley did last year, recruited to the competion. Hurley actively went after more mobile bigs because of Edey. UM and UF both have multiple mobile ball capable bigs in the 6'10" and above range, even if not the top recruit bigs. UF so blessed, they could reshirt a 7'9" guy. UF also has one of the top PGs, if not THE top pg in the country.

Both UM and UF have a lot of front court fouls to give if they run into a team like Duke. I don't see Purdue making it too far as they are always playing a team with a long armed guard away from losing.
.
UF and UM in the final I think would be my most interesting match-up

It's all about being in the right conference for mid-majors. Yale just won their tournament and it wasn't an upset. They wer HEAVY favorites.

Of their 7 losses.

Three were to mid-majors with losing records. Two more to teams near .500. And only one to a team heading to tournament (Purdue).

When is the last time they actually needed a "West" regional?

Shouldn't be a site further west than Texas. Tell those California nuts to eat faster.

I don’t agree but it is interesting, the last West Coast team to win a Title was UCLA 30 years ago.

Michigan got the better whistle over the final few minutes but I'm still elated for them. What a job Dusty May has done this season.
I don’t think anything egregious went for Michigan/against Wisconsin. Wisky wilted while Michigan locked in.

And they got absolutely screwed in their draw as did Wisconsin. Very surprised Wisconsin isn't in Milwaukee

Yeah. Michigan and Memphis both being 5 seeds is a joke. They should be 5 seeds apart. Memphis spent the whole conference slate beating the likes of East Carolina and Tulane by 2-3 points every game.

The Big Ten getting 8 teams in was a gift because the conference shouldn't have gotten more than 7 in. They did not get a gift in regards to seedings and locations though. Brand of basketball is just not fun and doesn't win when it counts most
