2023 St. Ignatius Football

Much like St. Edward and Moeller, Ignatius is in the middle of a residential neighborhood with very little parking. There is simply nowhere to put it. It's cheaper and more efficient to rent.

Ahhh got ya... Don't you think you guys could purchase land even if the stadium is not by the school don't you think that will work? Because even if you guys are using Byers it's not close to campus right?

Doesn't make financial sense for a handful of dates. Really don't need it for any other events.

A stadium would only be used for football, since all other sports are on campus, except those for which a football stadium is unnecessary ( swimming, baseball, crew). What would be the difference between owning a stadium off campus and renting one? Upkeep, security, etc and additional personnel expenses. It just doesn't make fiscal sense.

I'm pretty sure some wealthy alums have offered to pay for part or most of a football stadium but the school was not interested.

One offered 8 figures to build it, but the school declined, so he donated to another school project.

DCC from last year:

I could be wrong but I feel like the school usually put the schedule out in May. Perhaps waiting until memorial day week after graduation and the official retirement of Kyle. And the headline "For his first miraculous feat, Coach Franzinger will defeat all Central Catholics we could find"

I don't think it's in Ignatius' best interest to build a stadium either. The value of land in Ohio City is complete insanity. Probably the most expensive real estate in the entire state outside of the Short North in Columbus, and I would bet on Ohio City being more valuable. Both Ed's and Ignatius have to pull out the checkbook if they want to expand, and it won't be easy.

Franzinger has his hands full for sure with this schedule but if he makes it work it may swing the pendulum of football power in Greater Cleveland. It's an interesting strategy for sure, but I have to assume he had some say in this. There's no way he's just sitting back saying "whatever" to this schedule. It's quite the road for the new order. All my buddies that played for Kyle around 10 years ago loved Franzinger and think it was the right choice.

Does not have the talent to compete with these for 10 straight week. More likely to be demoralized. Flat out stupid to not at least have a couple breathers in there. It is one thing to do this if a title contender, it is another if far from it

Problem is that who is willing to schedule St. Ignatius anymore as far as “breathers” go? Ignatius is still paying for the 90’s dynasty in the public schools perspective, today.

Should be a problem less than ever now with so many teams making playoffs plus the obvious talent level drop.

Didn't have murderers row every week the last few years. For example, you drop someone like river rouge to add another top level team.

You could have kept week 10 open or kept football north as a Harbin points less scrimmage.

Yes scheduling is difficult, but, I dont buy it is the full story here at all.

Tell me this isn't some people responsible for scheduling not living in their glory days so I can smile and laugh

While it pains me to say so, I think this is Ignatius reasserting itself into the D1 championship picture.

In 1999 John Gibbons arrived as the new coach at St Edward. He pushed to schedule the best teams he could find. We were not always successful. His early battles with a great Warren Harding program were legendary and brought St Edward back to prominence. St Ignatius is playing the same card. They have the money, facilities and the coaching to challenge everyone in D1.

The first year will be challenging, but they will be in the mix moving forward.

I remember the old days when every QB that played for St. Ignatius was the next great one. The passing game was so much more advanced compared to Ed’s, who had great running backs.

Ignatius would just counter that with throwing 8 in the box and force Ed’s to throw. For 20 some years it worked to perfection.

It was remarkable. We would hear about the next kid in the 9th grade coming up to replace the current all-ohio Ignatius QB.

Now that position has been up and down, and that's being kind.

I like Franzinger. I think he is a good coach but it's all about talent. Have it-win. Don't have it- struggle.

Did they add more stands, or am I in the upside down, or April Fools?
They haven't, think Toms pulling our legs. The Browns donated a brand new turf field though, and for what it is it's quite nice. Small stands but 10 years ago the place was quite literally falling apart. The new building/campus is nice overall, but the school is a disaster. If I had to send my kids to CMSD there are a handful of other schools I'd send them to before Marshall, and I'd do just about anything to prevent them from going CMSD.

Agree, there isn't anything managed well in cle govt. Well, maybe water ...nevermind, they are just corrupt in that dept

Don't be surprised to hear that the home games will be played at a field they played at 60 yrs ago.................. John Marshall.
At least they have a field to play on. Big Moe might be forced to play on the P&G parking lot. :) GBM 💪 🏈

In my years at Ignatius the farthest game the Cats played was at Byers. Everything else was played at West Tech or Marshall.
We played Holy Name in an afternoon game at Rhodes (no lights) one year. And always played Latin every other year at John Adams.
