GL vs TW is gonna be super interesting. GL has a great record, but doesn't seem to have played much stiff competition, while TW has beaten a few top teams in their region this year. Same could be said for that D2 matchup.

Interesting stuff in the East, with some "chaos" as many predicted beacsue of the parody.

Divison I
East #1 - 6 seed Thomas Worthington makes its way to a regional final after consecutive quallity wins over Darby and Gahanna Lincoln where they will take on 1 seed Olentangy Liberty.
East #2 - 7 seed Dublin Jerome upsets Olentangy Orange in 3, they will take on 2 seed Hilliard Bradley in the regional final there.

Division II
Olentangy beats DeSales in 4.

In D1 South #2, Mason narrowly avoids being upset by Oak Hills in a tight 5-set match, and their reward is Elder on Thursday.
 
Thomas Worthington has done a great job thus far this season. Huge matchup for them and an opportunity to make it to the State tournament. Ultimately, I think Olentangy Liberty wins this match, but TW will not go down without a fight. I think TW sticks around for a game or two (maybe even takes one), but OL ends up being too much for them.

has a non-GCL school every advanced to the state tourney from one of the south regions? I know that there have been other schools to advance before the current tourney set up (S1, S2, N1, N2, etc.)

Lebanon won some state titles in the 90s and I'm assuming they'd be considered the south region? But since Moeller beat St. X in the finals in '97, 19 state finals have featured a GCL school from the south. In fact, 19 out of 32 state finals have featured one of E, Moe or X. I will say, though, the 6-7 years have definitely seen a bit more parity; from '03-'10, 7 of 8 state finals were GCL-S vs. GCL-S.

So, in all likelihood, for the majority of boys volleyball existence in Ohio, it's pretty much been the GCL-S from both regional finals. Even since LaSalle went D2, I think it's been all GCL in D2 as well. Maybe we'll get lucky and see Walnut Hills break that streak this year, but it'll be tough.
 
Yes, I know about the state finals (per the OHSBV site - https://www.ohioboysvolleyball.com/index.php/state-tournament1) Is there any info out there that would show the state brackets, not just the finals ?

there's been 32 state D1 (or combined) tourneys 1988-2019 (64 teams)
9 years that only had 1 of the "big 3" in the finals -- won 7 of the 9 lost in 2011 and 2013
10 years that 2 of the "big 3" were in the finals

Elder - 6-3
Moeller - 8-6
Xavier - 3-4

An amazing run.

The GCL-S has represented the South Region with two participants in the State Tournament since at least the early 2000s. My memory only goes back so far, but based on the ohioboysvolleyball website starting in 2003:

I thought Badin and/or McNicholas also reached the State Tournament at some point in the past several seasons with LaSalle dropping to D2. Roger Bacon seems to have been hit the hardest with LaSalle dropping down and Badin's rise. The D2 South used to be Bacon vs. McNick almost every year.
