2023 Pittsburgh Steelers

If Ben is back the Steelers have to base the offense on being productive as opposed to protecting Ben. That offense became so concerned with preserving Ben by getting the ball out of his hand that it became stagnant and ineffective as opponents figured it out. Even if JuJu leaves in free agency there's enough there to have a productive offense if run properly.

Pouncey officially retires, although i could have sworn i read that he did this like 3 weeks ago.
It was highly anticipated.
When I read a few days ago he ws close to a decision I had thought the same thing, that he already had.

BR needs to get into a program to get some agility. If worked for Rocky, maybe he should chase chickens.

if JJ really wants to play for the Steelers/with his brother, i'm guessing he can work out some kind of incentive laden deal with a lower base salary so as to not crush the cap and JJ Watt is a good enough defensive player that the Steelers can adjust their scheme to use him the right way. doesn't mean you have to abandon the 3-4. but you can tweak it.

it's not out of the realm of possibility that Watt becomes a Steeler.

Are they switching to a 4-3?
I have always been a fan of the 3-4 as I feel you are bit more flexible, and athletic, with that extra LB opposed to that 4th DL.
However, that means one LB is essentially playing the DL rush end. There are some games their athleticism is good enough to dominate, sometimes not.

Each has its plusses and minuses but I am not ready to tank the 3-4 as its not as easy of an over hall as some think.

BUT moving forward I think defenses more and more are going to have to get pressure with 4 DL and maybe sending a LB. Mobile QB's, quick passing games are dominating. With DL getting more and more agile and talented that allows teams to add a DB with the 4th DL..

Great story on Three Rivers.

was there a number of times and seemed to rock much more than Heinz.

I agree. I'm guessing because Three Rivers was enclosed and Heinz has the open area towards the river.
Although it was one of the generic cookie cutter stadiums it sure is a shame these structures are torn down not because they're old and dilapidated but because everyone wants a newer shinier object.
And I believe my Pirates are something like 1-14 when I attend games at PNC. When I saw them at Three Rivers I probably witnessed an 80% win rate.

It is much nicer in the area now so I cannot complain too much, but with progress come th emuch higher prices.

Very true. Bars. Restaurants. That area just 'feels' better since 2001. With three rivers it was get in and get out. Now with PNC and Heinz you wanna stay and play.
And yeah, the suite revenue dictates in all sports?

Last game my son and I went to was a Sunday night affair. We got there about 1pm. Probably hit 3-4 bars and then the area right by Heinz that had $5 16ozers. My son did most of the drinking as I was driving back to hotel but people were great and had a fun day.

Big time night games is an absolute blast, especially if they win!

I like the addition of the Casino. Good place to stop in before and after the games!

Brother's company has 8 season tix, all on the 50. 4 in row 17, the other 4 the front row of the club section.
We get them at least once a year, FOR FREE. Face value ranges upwards north of $300 for each.

Up until then I was in with my buddies in around 2004-05 time frame with season tix. He got a call in like July and we had a day to think about it so we said hell yaeh.
What screws ya is the preseason games you need to pay for. Being 305 miles away we could only go a few times a year, but did very well selling them on eBay for games we couldnt attend.

I did that for about ten seasons. When my brother started to get those tix for us I bowed out of the season ticket thing as the seats were bad and by sitting in the Club or lower bowl I cannot go back to the top!

With friends still having 8 season tix, my brother having access to 8 many weeks, I am pretty much set if I wanna go to one.

From what I’m reading, mostly Trib, unless Ben takes a big cut he’s likely gone. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I guess I can withstand a season or two at 7-9, 8-8 I’ve done it before. Hate to see the BR era end that way but it is what it is.

they'll figure it out. little by little they're getting guys to restructure/rework deals. they'll fill the gaps and be competitive again. not saying Super Bowl (if Ben comes back, I think they can. he has enough left in him to do it) if he doesn't, they can still be a playoff team.

Restructuring is just to free up space to put together a complete roster. Right now they have 32 players under contract for 2021 while being well over the expected $185m cap. JuJu, Dupree, Villanueva, Conner, and Hilton are just a few of a long list of guys that can’t be brought back. Not to mention Pouncey. They should be looking to trade Haden and possibly DeCastro

If they draft well, they’ll be a contender again in 3-4 seasons

If they can restructure his roster bonus and $3m of his salary into a signing bonus, they can save $18m against the cap this year. The problem with that is it means extending his contract. I think it's a bad move in both the short and long term.

JJ Watt; last 5 years has played 48 out of 80 regular season games; he had a great 2018 when he played all 16 with 16 sacks, had 10.5 sacks combined the other 4.

Ben is 106-20-1 when Steelers rush for 100 yards
Ben is 50-54 when they don't.

12-0-1 since 2018 when they rush for 100 yds.

Get OLineman and a legit RB.

that's it.

And get under center occasionally and reintroduce himself to play action.
