2019 Football

Another embarrassing performance last night. Now, we are mixing in 3 quarterbacks during the game? Drew goes out and they bring #17 in over Verdon? Drew should have never been put back in the game in the second half. He was clearly not healthy. He was holding his shoulder/collarbone area between plays and on the sideline. It's hard to believe how far this program has sunk this year. We are in week 8 so the "we are young" argument is kinda losing relevance. Again, there doesn't seem to be improvement or progress in any areas on the team. Think about this.....

Bottom 4 teams in region 4
#18 - Oak Hills
#17 - Western Hills
#16 - Middletown
#15 - Moeller

Let. That. Sink. In.

They should move Verdon to safety.
While I agree Cincinnati Moeller is not having a good year, comparing to the above teams is misleading given the schedule they play.

This!

It’s a typical Moeller schedule. They have played these types of schedules for years. The difference now is that they simply are not competitive. It was 42-0 at halftime last night. I honestly don’t think it would be different if they were playing mostly locals like Fairfield, Lakota West, Colerain or Princeton.

Our Athletic Department can't post scores of the freshman and JV games but they did post the 2020 Varsity Football Schedule. Here's Moeller's 2020 Schedule:
Lawrence Central, IN (Indiana vs Ohio) Rodenberg returns to play Moeller
Loveland
Oak Hills
Middletown
Lexington Globetrotters
St. X*
LaSalle*
Elder*
Western Hills
Some Canadian Team

*GCLS teams can opt to play their JV team

All games will be held at the Gerry Faust Complex since nobody will be going to any games to see this Circus continue!

OK, I guess he's a Moe Football grad, Head Coach, and he's not interested in winning? Right?
Ask anyone around the program, constantly telling players that the scoreboard does not matter. In the summer he told the team if they went 0-10, he could still consider it a successful year. I have never heard of any success coming from a mentality where it is okay to drop games like this. Only win so far this year coming from a team that couldn't compete with All Saints. And anyone who says this team lacks talent should go on Hudl and watch some of the guys' film. They are certainly not as talented as last year but they are definitely more talented than Cathedral, X, and LaSalle. Naumann also has shown an inability to call plays. Timeouts wasted early in halves on lack of communication. In the St.X game, we were passing the ball wherever we wanted and the bombers could not even attempt to stop us. Second half you would expect more of the same, but Naumann begins to run the ball... ZERO POINTS in the second half and another L for Big Moe. Disgraceful.

When Big Moe returns to normal, starting next year, you'll be the first person in the stadium. I think coaches point, he along with knowledgeable Moe fans know this year was going to be a big challenge. No one, coaches, players, and Moe fans are happy with this season. The season ends in 3 weeks and the future looks brighter with 15-16 returning starters and a talented soph. and frosh class moving up. I agree about the play calling and untimely timeouts. Hopefully those growing pains will be worked out and play calling will be much easier next year with a seasoned offensive line and experienced skilled talent. The big issue next year is who will play QB?

at what point do we stop talking about "next year"? Its been this way for years now...."ohh next year, ohhh boy look who we have coming up". At some point we have to focus on what we have in front of us.

I understand looking at the roster and the losses from last year as a head coach you could expect a challenging season. That is never an excuse to lower the expectations. Moeller has done much better with far less talent in the past. I agree the team will be improved next year but we cannot continue looking to next year. Imagine being a senior on this team with the head coach looking to next year and not expecting much of this year. part of being a head coach is inspiring confidence in your players, and if anything Naumann has done the opposite. I am not saying Naumann does not have a spot at Moeller, however the head coaching position is clearly not where he belongs. The bottom line here is that this team had the talent to win a lot of games this year, and due to poor coaching we are sitting at 1-6 and are being ranked below D4 teams on Maxpreps.

2-8 and No Playoff's is what Moe has in front of them.

and there's the problem....we don't have 2-8 in front of us, We have a game against 3-4 St. Ignatius, a game which we can win. Thats all that matter at this point. Not going 2-8 or 1-9....we need to get back to focusing on, literally, what is right in front of us. There has only been one recent Moeller coach who has done this and it is not Naumann or Rosfeld or Crable....

Who would you like to see coaching Moeller Football?

Moeller has a bunch of studs on their freshmen team, but not sure if the HC will make it long enough to coach those kids

If I had a dollar for every time I hear “wait for this freshman class to come up” (Moeller or other schools), I would be typing this from the beach right now. It is all about development of players and keeping them playing. I do not think I am wrong in saying that Colerain’s freshman teams are not typically at the top of the GMC, but when they get to Varsity it all changes and they have been one of the best in the city for a long time. Does anyone really know what we have next year? Verdon has not been developed.....really the opposite has happened. The kid plays sporadically even though he almost leads the team in rushing with a fraction of the carries. He averages almost 10 yards a carry from the qb position, but they won’t ride that out to see what happens if they commit to it. How could it go any worse?. White is probably the fastest kid in the GCL and he hardly ever has the ball in his hands. How does he not get at least 10 touches a game? The kid is a game breaker but we cannot figure out how to get the ball in his hands. There are not a whole lot of positives to pull from this year.

I want an honest search for a head coach. I think there needs to be a search committee formed and interview multiple candidates. I don't want the president making this decision, it needs to come from a committee of people who have knowledge in coaching and the present state of culture within the school. I think we need to look beyond Moeller. We need some fresh blood from outside to come in and refocus the team, the school and rally the alumni around the team.

Totally Agree

The excuse for 2020 just happened yesterday with Verdon transferring. I would guess Verdon was going to be the QB next year since he has been used as QB2 this year. So now he leaves, during the season, so the excuse for Naumann and Hyzdu in 2020 is "we have a young QB". Please stop with the excuses! I agree with cincyfballer1738 that the Board of Directors need to take control and tell Hyzdu that he isn't permitted to be the "search committee". Blane Carlson was a great Principal that left because he couldn't deal with Hyzdu doing his job of running the school. Since that time Hyzdu has taken full control of every aspect of the school. I don't believe this was the role of the President when the Board of Directors established that position. My understanding in talking to people high up at Moeller is that the President's role was to head up the Development Office and bring money and donations into the school. I don't think it was to run the school on a daily basis. It's time for Moeller to make a change with the head football coach and with the role of the President. I wonder what Naumann and the staff will be doing Saturday night to celebrate their 8th loss of the season and having their names attached to the worst record in school history? Moeller deserves better!

Where did Verdon go? I hate to see him leave because I have always thought the kid was super talented. I'm not a fan of kids leaving, but I can't blame him for leaving. He should have been given a chance to develop at QB especially after being the #1 guy all off-season and preseason. He had a bad game (along with everyone else on the offense) in the first game of the season and he got pulled. They put him at WR and he seldom played. There was a ton of talent just standing on the sidelines. IMO it was Naumann's first big blunder. After the big move, they've won one game against a team that the freshman QB could have started and they still would have won. Did his brother transfer too?

His twitter says Hamilton High School, which is open enrollment. Will be interesting to see how a team of kids who were at the bottom and put in the work to dig themselves out of the trenches and are seeing some success for the first time in a long time are going to embrace a kid on his third school in three years coming in now and capitalizing on their turnaround for himself. Ironic its also the OC/QB Coach's old stomping grounds too...

He wasn't a good fit for Moeller, and Moeller wasn't a good fit for him. Time to move on!

I like how you just try to abruptly end the conversation like there’s not a lot more underlying this story. He wasn’t a good fit bc he didn’t develop into the QB you guys thought he’d be when he transferred. As soon as you realize he’s not the stud you need, he’s not a “good fit.”

My point was, he wanted to play QB and it didn't seem like that was going to happen because they moved him after week 1, and finding the right position for him seemed like it was going to be a challenge to keep him engaged in the program. A challenge for both player and Moe. My comment was simply athletically speaking.

I'm sure Hyzdu will come out with a new "branding" campaign to fix all of this . . . ;) if he changes the logo again does that wipe away the worst record in school history??? Anybody that ever has spent 5 minutes talking to Hyzdu comes away thinking he is a slimebag (similiar to a douchebag but slimier).

Man, I don't know how that could be the case. I watched the La Salle at Moeller game and 7 looked like the only good player on the field for Moeller at times.

I guess you now have to ask the dreaded question no program should want to have asked.........is there a culture problem within Moeller Football? Its one thing to have a bad team, but its a completely different situation when the culture surrounding the program is not a positive culture. When kids start leaving mid season, when multiple kids start getting suspended and now parents are getting concerned....I think its a real issue that Moeller has to address sooner rather than later.
