2019 Football

Enjoyed the game even though we fell just short. Glad to see them lay it on the line in the GCL. I would like to see the training staff focus on teaching the boys more about hydration. Too many players down last night with drive stopping cramps. Great to see them pay with heart all the way through! GBM!

The team played hard last Friday. Clock management by coaching staff at the end of the first half and game really hurt. Also, no adjustment was made to the punt protection. Three times X had an unblocked man. We have a great kicker and we huddled when we got the ball back at the end of the game instead of trying to get into field goal range? Naumann acted as if he was okay with losing by 3 points. Is that where we are with our Football Program? PAINFUL!

Agree, a game tying FG was absolutely within KT's wheelhouse, everyone would have loved to see him get a chance to have that moment.

WTH Moe? Was this awful season expected? Who is to blame? Coaching? Lack of talent? Injuries? Is this why the previous coach left? How do you go from GCL Champs to rock bottom so quickly?

I've seen them play once in person, so I may be off the mark, but:

Coaching?

Some. There were some inexplicable issues getting plays in leading to awful use of time outs against La Salle.

Lack of talent?

But the coaching issues didn't compare to this. There just isn't a lot there. Moeller didn't have a prayer against the LS offense.

In fact, the amount of players Moeller suited up looked awfully small for a GCLS/Moeller team.

Down years happen, especially at a school like Elder that relies so much on incoming feeder school talent.

Moe gets so many kids from so many different schools, I am surprised they would suffer such a drop off like this.

Huge senior class with many starters graduated last year; 3rd coach in 3 years; 4th year in a row without a successful record (yes they won GCL title last year but got destroyed in playoff game). I have only been to a couple of games but it looks very undisciplined on the sidelines and on the field. Several really talented players that are barely seeing the field (Rotello immediately comes to mind- kid has a nose for the ball, could be playing both ways). It just kinda a mess- saw a lot of heart in the X game, just ran out of steam.

I'm hearing some starters are not starting this week against Elder. Has anyone else heard these rumors or can someone confirm if this is true?

After watching the LaSalle film, hopefully Naumann took some notes on how effective a running quarterback can be in an offense. IMO Verdon should be playing a lot more from the QB position. Whenever he's put back there (which is sparingly) and runs the read option, he has been extremely effective. He had a nice TD run against LaSalle and was leading the go ahead drive against X in the 4th quarter before he was taken out. He hit a nice pass and then broke off a long run on the read option. That set up the go ahead score on the reverse that got called back because of holding. Then, they took him out and he never was put back at QB for the rest of the game. He is the second leading rusher on the team with a fraction of the carries. The guy that does the weekly interview with Naumann even brought it up this week on the weekly show. It was such a knee jerk reaction to pull him after week 1.

I have been watching football a long time on all levels and I have never seen anyone call a game like Naumann. For whatever reason, it stuck out to me at the LaSalle game. When he calls offensive plays, he turns his back to the field and faces the stands. The back up quarterbacks (signal callers) face the field. I don't know if he's listening to the coaches upstairs, but a lot of plays he visibly appears to be pondering what to call (which often leads to the plays coming in late and having to use time outs). The defense could be making mass substitutions and he wouldn't know because he doesn't look at the field when coming up with the play. I have never seen a person call plays like that before.

Just out of curiosity, do ya'll think there is some decision-making issue with No. 7? I'm likely foolishly basing this on one play I saw in ehich he had a sure first down run and ducked out of bounds on third down well before the marker. Of course if that is the case, at this point the season is over and he could use the experience.

Care to elaborate? An accusation such as that is pretty bold to mention in a setting such as this. Better make sure you have all the facts before tearing down a bunch of HS kids.

Agreed. I'm questioning whether that post alleged some bad behavior or was simply an unfair and immature comment on talent.

"Culture" seems to be the big buzz word at Cincinnati Moeller lately. They have always had a culture of winning since I have been following the program. Is there something happening outside of the usual and customary high school student discipline issues and over-involved parents that every school experiences?

Problem with this team is coaching. Period. Naumann is in way over his head and winning has never been a priority for him. Disgraceful and a black mark on the history of Moeller Football.

Oh I have the facts....just watch the starting lineup unless the spineless coach caves. I'm not tearing down any kids, but also kids should not be above the program, especially ones that are moving on to division 1 college programs and when there are so many other kids that want to work and play hard for the team. Oh well, Moeller is no longer a football school, they have decided to spend all their scholarship money arecruiting a basketball prep academy.

So the Head coach can't suspend players who aren't living up the expectations of the program? Quit making acqusations about
