Wait a minute. 2 game suspension AND anger rehab class AND a fine?!? I was a basketball ref for 8 years back in the 90s (high school and D3) and I’ve never heard of such a thing. Did the ref who gave the two consecutive Ts and an ejection have to sit out as well? Did he get counseled on game management? I’m all about supporting refs.....it’s a tough, tough gig. But that seems like an overreach by the OHSAA for getting tossed. Maybe if he were a repeat offender, but he’s not. That blows me away.

When an ejection occurs for a COACH:
1. The Coach must leave the facility. If there is no assistant coach or administrator present to continue coaching/supervision, the game is ended at that point.
2. The Coach is ineligible to coach in ALL CONTESTS until 2 contests at the level of the ejection are completed.
Example 1: If a coach is ejected from a Varsity contest, he/she cannot coach/sit on the bench in any freshmen, JV or Varsity contests until 2 Varsity games are completed.
Example 2: If a coach is ejected from a JV contest, he/she cannot coach/sit on the bench in any freshmen, JV or Varsity contest until 2 JV contests are completed. That also infers that a Varsity coach ejected during the JV game is not permitted to sit on the bench/coach during the varsity contest that same night following the JV game.
3. The Coach may not travel with the team to any away contest with the team during the period of ejection.
4. The Coach may not be in the locker room before, during or after a contest during the period of ejection.
5. The Coach may not be in the bench area before, during or after a contest during the period of ejection.
6. The Coach may not provide instruction to the team from the end of the gym, from the stands, etc. during the period of ejection.
7. The Coach MAY attend a contest following the restrictions outlined in #3, #4, #5 and #6 above.
8. The Coach MAY practice with the team during the period of ejection.
9. The Coach must complete the “Teaching and Modeling Behavior” course offered through www.nfhslearn.com
10. The Coach must submit payment of a $100.00 fine per instructions outlined below.

I guess the point is....you are coaching high school basketball...shouldn’t be getting T’s at all, so make the punishment severe.

If that’s the case, the refs have to be really, really, really careful in giving out Ts. Again.....I was a ref. I almost always take the refs side. But at the Iggy game, Coach got two Ts and WHAM....ejected. If the punishment is that severe, the refs have to give a long leash. The onus is just as much on them to deescalate the situation, because refs play a role in molding young men and women just as coaches do, when it comes to modeling behavior, sportsmanship, etc.

I 100% agree. I gave 2 technicals in 8 years of reffing. I‘m not saying I was the world’s greatest ref, but the last thing I wanted to do was T up anyone. It’s not an effective tool. I gave plenty of team techs for illegal timeouts, substitutions, etc. But personal Ts were not necessary. Boo on the ref. I hope there are repercussions for his actions.

I saw Jackson play against Orange. McKinley should win, probably by double digits. Jackson is smaller and weaker defensively than they've been for a long time. Losing Hyde and Junker hurt them a lot. Bears aren't as physical. They have some good athletes in the back court, but the outside shooting wasn't there.

This was a pretty good pre-game assessment that I tended to agree with. Having seen (either in person or on TV) some of Jackson's games, the younger kids getting minutes are still taking bad shots, forcing things and playing terrible defense. It's one thing to look like an all-star against some of the lesser teams on your schedule, it's another thing to do it against McK, Green and GO. I thought this would have been corrected by now, either by the players themselves or coaches.

It turned out to be a well played, gritty and physical game by both sides. Jackson played and has been playing without its leading returning scorer along with working through other injuries, so that should help when the team is back to full go. This could be a dangerous team the next round of FL Games and come tourney time.

One last thing. IUDOGS keeps posting rosters with Jasper Robinson and Jalen Ross. Assuming this is incorrect, dated info??

Congrats to McKinley and will see you again in a couple of weeks at your house.
