2015 Moeller Frosh Football

Another tough loss last night vs Elder 14-13. Again just like the St X game I thought that we out played Elder. The defense played very well to hold Elder's so called great offense to 14 pts. The D-line played another great game especially Mullaney, he is going to be someone we will hear about a lot in the future. LB again were solid, Szabodas was a stud again but we have got to get better at the CB and safety positions!

Not sure where this comment came from, as no one has been touting Elder's offense as "great." and actually the defense has been the better unit for Elder as those 13 were the 1st points given up by the 1st team D this year.

He's so butthurt. The guy has been hyping up this team since July and they go 1-2 in the GCL.

fhsknockout1 may just be the NVA of the Moeller board? You know the Circus does Travel:banana:

not sure if anyone is butthurt so much as bummed. This is the Moeller thread, should people not be on here excited about their team? In my opinion- I think there is a certain level of respect that should go on within the schools individual threads, I know i have been careful of this on other schools threads. On the general board, that is a different story, you can expect daggers (often nuclear bombs) thrown at your school. Especially with all of the negativity hurdled at the "privates"- why would you other GCL schools want to add fuel to the fire? I don't necessarily agree with fhsknockout, but i'll take his boastful, yet harmless posts over the nastiness that gets thrown around on here anyday.

Offensively, it was RJ left and RJ right. I know RJ is a special talent and not to take anything away from that young man but we have got to throw the ball more to open up the run!!

My biggest frustration is with the lack of coaches on this team, the boys are not getting better! I am seeing the same mistakes by the same kids every week! I know it's freshman football but it's Moeller!! St X, LaSalle, & Elder seemed to have plenty of coaches

Isn't this some of the same things CometsRule was posting about? I guess it's ok if it's a dad from the team talking down on the coaches. Heard a rumor of boys transferring left and right...not a good sign for Moe's future. Maybe Rodenburg should've thought it through a little more when hiring dad's as coaches.

I've seen a few games and I agree on the play calling. The offense looks like a 3rd grade pee wee team. Too one dimensional. I also think the other two QB's should get time with the bigger o-line. Someone has to explain why #34 doesn't run the ball more. He'd be a good thunder with lightning type back.

Defensively it's a 2 player team. #88 and #44. Those 2 carry the defense. If they do not make the play---look out! #96 and #94 are always in the backfield the games I've seen them play. Also, #47 is another linebacker that should be getting some time.

I think the coaches have let their egos or personal agendas get in the way. They never promote any players for playing good. Just the same thing game in and game out. Has there been any changes in the secondary? I don't think so.

Agree with the team not getting better from earlier in the season, but if you're not promoting competition at practice or from game to game they're never going to grow as players.

I agree with you for the most part, but someone was on here a couple weeks back nearly proclaiming this class the 2019 state champs. This along with the one poster above claiming they should have won both matchups they lost and that they're "the better team overall."

The 3CL schools all look to be pretty even across this grade level, which could mean we could have another year like we have this season on the varsity level come 2018/2019. Then again, no one can predict the way things will go for these guys as things go on throughout their careers.

I don't care about this GCL vs Public battle. The entire idea of "GCL Brotherhood" is moronic and lends itself to justified accusations of arrogance. I only responded to FHS' comment bc it was childish and the full embodiment of a sore loser.

Not getting into a pissing match about this, but they were all coaches at Moeller before their sons came and a couple of them have been teachers and coaches there for a long time. You guys are making it sound like Moeller just picked dads which is not true. But then again you apparently are on expert on their agendas. As for the question about comments from Cometstool- no, this is not the same. Criticizing coaching is not nearly the same as calling out kids and coaches kids.

on a separate note- if there are kids that are just there for the football/sports and are so unhappy that they want to switch high schools then they have bigger problems than any playing time will help. Moeller (and life) is so much more than freshman football and losing the GCL by a grand total of 3 points. But it literally happens every year- kids come in and have unrealistic expectations (thanks Dad), hit their first big roadblock in life and make a uturn.

I have kids at both private and public school so I have a different perspective I guess

I think people from other schools jumped into the discussion because a comparison was being made between the Moeller frosh and the other GCL schools. The fact is that the three schools being discussed certainly seem to be evenly matched. While it's fun to discuss records freshman football is really about developing young men to perform at the next level. Besides some of the obvious talent I am sure there will be other kids not playing much as frosh who will step up in a big way during the next few years

Any updates on the freshman game vs St I's? I saw we won 18-14 but how did we look?

Also, is there anyone on this freshman team that you think can contribute on varsity next year??

There are at least 4 frosh that I know of that should see varsity pt next year. I'd say Moeller has more standout top-end talent than the other GCL schools at this grade. Elder probably has more depth though. Hard to say about X. Haven't seen Lasalle.

Besides the two freshmen currently playing up (QB on JV and Lineman on varsity) which freshmen do you think will play varsity next year? While they might dress some players the only two I think have any shot of playing are one of the LB's and the RB.

The lb from st sue (I think) and the rb from gabes/mikes.

Szabados LB, yes St. Sues; Khayo RB, st. Gabes/Golden bears- both have shined this season and could get pt on Varsity. They are the two playing in Frosh squad that stand out.

Moe will have serious depth at RB next year. Hughes, Thurman, both Watkins and Khayo. A good problem for Rody to have. Thurman has a chance to be very special, he is good now! May have to move some of those other guys to DB?

The frosh LB is a beast and I would be shocked if he doesn't start next year.

OL, Carpenter, LB Szabados will be soph starters. I see Khayo getting plenty of playing time as well. Good talent at WR also coming up from the JV team.

Beat Ed's and wreak some havoc on the playoffs! GBM

I totally agree with the depth problem at RB next year. Hughes, Thurman, & Watkins are all big and strong but mostly between the tackle type runners that wont out run anyone. Khayo would be the only one with the speed to run outside the tackles or bounce one to the outside and out run the defense. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved Khayo to the slot position to replace Butz but he needs to get in the weight room this summer!

There are a couple of tall, fast kids on the team also that could develop into good options at safety & TE. Not there yet, but often the tall kids need an extra year to grow into their bodies. Buts is special- toughest kid out there every gane
