1980's .... Top Metal/Rock albums ... give me some suggestions!

I get that you like the genre but did you only listen to Metal in this decade?!? So much great stuff is left off... Here is a short list of notable albums that you left off that are top 20 in most books>

Combat Rock - The Clash
Synchronicity - The Police
So - Peter Gabriel
Tattoo You - The Rolling Stones
Purple Rain - Prince
1999 - Prince
Disintegration - The Cure
Murmur - REM

Lets look at the 2nd part of your list....

Have only heard London is Calling from the Clash and did not like it but I may take another swing with Combat Rock

Heard Synchronicity and that one has my favorite Police track but only liked half the album
Did not like "So" but did like "Melt" from Peter Gabriel.
I have heard Tattoo You.... it was OK, same with Purple Rain.... actually did not like most of it but had a few great tracks on it.
Have not heard "1999" ... may give it a listen...

Never listened to The Cure
I've listened to a bunch of REM albums but not Murmur.... I will definitely check that one out.

I understand that your lean to more aggressive music but then again I do see some wild hair type likes that pop up out of nowhere. I am not all in with many of the types of music on the list I submitted but do get why some may consider them as best of the decade. By the way I am not a big fan of '80s music in general and found it difficult to come up with a list, looking forward to the'90s.

I'm looking forward to the 90's as well..... When I post them on this site it is actually the first time I am seeing them in this order which is based on my rating system.... so I get surprised every once in awhile by what shows up....

Gimmie hair bands all day long. You are doing it wrong I'd the following are not included.

Ratt.
Dokken.
Motley Crue.
Tesla.
Guns n Roses.

Give me the catalogs of those five bands for the rest of my life and then I would be fine.

Oh .and U2..... sucks.

"Live After Death" might be cheating, but gets you all of Iron Maiden's hits and peak Bruce Dickinson.

"Metal Health" by Accept is pretty solid. Udo Dirkschneider is one of the stranger-looking front men in metal history and would have made an excellent fill-in for Brian Johnson while he was unable to perform.

Did they also have a song by that name?

I recall, and loved, the Quiet Riot version. It was the very first tape I owned.

Have had XMRadio now for over a month and loving the Hair Bank and Ozzie's Boneyard.

What groups didnt hold up well in your opinion?

Twisted Sister: Cannot listen to more than a verse.
Bon Jovi: Other than Livin on a Prayer nothing has held up.

Rest of the Hair Bands....stiiiiill lovin it!

Oops. It's "Metal Heart."

I listen to the hair station on the way home from work...enjoy the guy on in the afternoons who tells stories, does interviews, etc.

I was more into Iron Maiden, JP, etc. back then...but the girls we were chasing liked Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard...

One genre brings back memories of me sitting in my bedroom with the headphones on. The other brings back memories of parking down by the lake...I guess it depends on what kind of mood I'm in and whether I'm on the wife's s&*% list that day.

I was more of a Dokken and Ratt guy. I believe that guy you are talking about mentioned RATT stands for Rock All The Time.

Cue the NBC music.......'The more you know....."

One of my kids is a pretty good guitar player. I have introduced him to Warren DeMartini and George Lynch via Spotify, but he prefers David Gilmour for some reason.

OK, I stated that the 70's were and likely the best decade for music ever but the best decade to grow up in was the 80's. I mean you had the music of the 70's to fall back on but the 80's really launched some great Metal bands and what a great scene that was. Bunch of great albums out during this era but there are likely some I have not heard that could make my top 50 list. My top 50 consist of studio albums only with Live and EP albums with unique tracks that do not appear on any other studio album are considered. Now I've listened to a bunch of albums in the 80's so what are your favorites of this era and if I have not listened to them I will check them out....

Share your stories of concerts you went to in the 80's and your record store experiences.... remember record stores?? !!!! ??

No Appetite for Destruction? Your list is wrong

No Appetite for Destruction? Your list is wrong

It is on there..... #94

Remember this list is based on my likings not what I think others like.....

That album would of been much higher back in the 80's when I played it to death but for my liking it did not hold it's own and since I cannot stand the lead singer anymore it suffered a bit but still a very solid album.

He’s a fat pig now, but that album is frozen in time. It’s the best album of the 80s imo.
