What a decade the 70's were and likely the best decade for music ever. Bunch of great albums out during this era but there are likely some I have not heard that could make my top 50 list. My top 50 consist of studio albums only with Live and EP albums with unique tracks that do not appear on any other studio album are considered. Now I've listened to a bunch of albums in the 70's so what are your favorites of this era and if I have not listened to them I will check them out....

2112 - Rush should be in there somewhere

My favorite Rush album from the 70's is Farewell to Kings. I actually own 2112 but don't really care for the 2nd side. Rush is one of those bands that has a strong loyal fan group but the majority of people don't really get into them. I've heard 13 Rush albums and Moving Pictures by far is my favorite. I would say my favorite track by Rush is Sub-Divisions.

Maybe if I don't get too many suggestions I will check out 2112 again. It has been awhile since the last time I heard it and I have definitely mellowed out more over the years....

Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story

Overall not to bad. It started out slow though kind of too mellow for me but then it kicked it up a bit on track 3 "That's Alright". Maggie May is a track I hear almost everyday at work and was my favorite on this album. The surprise for me was "I'm Losing You" who I had no idea it was by Rod. He has such an unique voice it is only a mystery why I never knew it was him of all the times I heard that track.... oh well, mystery solved. I liked all the tracks except for #2 and the last one..... Nice to hear Wood and Rod still playing on this one.

I've heard all those Classic Rock albums.... Slowhand is just outside my top 50 with an over 80 rating. Great album. Yellow Brick Road comes next followed by Bruce and Ziggy. Not a huge Harrison solo fan so that one I liked the least.....

OK, I have heard 3 of these.... Harvest is also just outside my top with with an over 80 rating... Great album followed by American Beauty ... which is my fav of the Dead albums I have heard... After the Goldrush is another solid album.....

Have not heard Blood on the Tracks and will likely check out that one next. Never heard any Carol King so that will be completely new if I choose to check it out. I did not care for Joni's Court and Spark album so I am not sure if I dare try another.....

Not a fan of Punk.... I can listen to Crossover though. I have heard London is Calling and Ramones and did not care for either. The others have not heard but will try one out.....

As for R&B/Funnk/Soul only Innervisions is what I've heard. This one rated in the 79's ... will definitely check out the other Stevie album you suggested and maybe take a stab at Marley....

I believe Auggie mentioned above... Bruce Springsteen- Born to Run, is one of the biggest classics from the 70's. Also Uriah Heep, was a good underrated rock band, in the 70's

How can you not love All Things? Just think, Paul McCartney thought Maxwell's Silver Hammer should have been on Abbey Road over this>

Carol King has a great life story, you should check it out sometime and see how many great songs she is responsible for writing. This is arguably the best break up song of all time.

Songs in the Key is one of the quintessential albums of the '70s. Nothing screams the decade more than a Soul Train line boogie to I Wish.

Could probably easily go to a top 100.

I like Carole King.....you should give her a chance. Lol

Great song..... but to me, the only great song on the 23 track album. I think it was a bunch of crap how Lennon and McCartney treated Harrison and his songs not allowing most of them on a Beatles album and then he had Eric Clapton after his wife.....

Now that's a list!

Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder : Checked it out and did not care for it. Double albums are just not my thing unless it is a live or best of type thing. This one was just too soft and did not have that funk that could get my body moving.

vamps here's two you need to look up and give a listen for the 70s

We're an American Band - Grand Funk
Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower.

Bridge of Sighs is #20 on my list. Absolute great album by Robin Trower and the CD is in constant rotation in my CD changer!!!!

We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad r Hard 73.930 1973
... I liked this one too. Did not make my top 100 but pretty solid album at 73.930. Anything over 70 I like and everything over 80 I think is great.

Apparently your rating system is a little more complex than American Bandstand's "can you dance to it?" 35-98 points. You've probably explained it before, but I've never seen it. Is it back on one of your older threads?

Each track on the album is rated by how I like it from a scale of 20.0-50.0. 35 is the midway point which would be good, 40 would be great and 45 would be elite. A track can be rated 41.7.

You take the average of the tracks you rated and times it by 2. You then add the number of rated tracks on the album divided by 100. Then you take the year the album was released and subtract by the current year and divide that by 1 million. (this is not a joke this insures that one does not have 30 albums with all the same ratings but at the same time does not skew an album over another do to how long it has been out.)

Example. An album from 1995 with 8 tracks rated: 40, 40.5, 39.8, 32.8, 35, 42.5, 37.5, 38 The average would be 38.2625. 38.2625 time 2 = 76.525
You take the number of tracks on the album and divide by 100. 8/100 = .08 76.525 + 0.08 = 76.605.

Last step.... subtract the year of the album from current year and divide by 1 million. 2021-1995 = 26 26/1000000 = .000026
add that to the total to get 76.605026 and that would be the rating for that album.
