Progressive Rock
This does have one of my favorite ELO songs on it but the album in whole ranks 3rd in my ELO discography. This album is known as being a top 50 all time Prog album....
I was a big ELO fan in the '70s and I always thought this album was overrated, too much schmaltz for me. The next 3, Face the Music, A New World Record, & Out of the Blue were their high water mark. I also liked On the 3rd Day better than Eldorado.
The rating of Eldorado is skewed a bit as it has one of my favorite ELO tracks on it, take that away and the rating drops down into the 75's. I have both Face the Music and A New World ranked higher than Eldorado but not Out of the Blue.
Out of the Blue is not in my top 3 but the public loves that album. By the way, Fire on High is the best ELO tune EVER. Very spacy intro with backward masking, great early use of the ARP synth, and Jeff Lynne laying down the best all time acoustic guitar riff.>
..... By the way, Fire on High is the best ELO tune EVER.
This is a great album. Another one in a similar vein (all instrumental and more symphonic) is this one:198. AtomA - Skylight (2012)
I remember buying this on vinyl when it came out. The packaging was cool. The inner sleeve folded open and had a board game on it.239. Triumph - Just A Game (1979)
