Blood Incantations - Absolute Elsewhere (2024) ... 77.160

-Technical Death Metal

Lot of chatter with this release some say this could be the metal album of the year. Well, it is not really the genre I am into but I have heard them before so curiosity got me to listen to this one. This one gets heavy and then out of nowhere it turns into 70's prog. It actually works. So we have the Death Metal with the technical parts. We also have atmosphere with some psychedelic moments and then it gets proggy throughout. Liked all the tracks with 3 of the 6 heading to the playlist.

This one at times gave me Gojira vibes. Really liked first time hearing it..... 4 tracks made my playlist but I will be keeping an eye on this one as it could be a grower. Really liked the atmospheric moments of this one.....

Heavy hitter Opeth is back and this time the Death Metals vocals are also back. This one tells a story with each track leading into the next. The tone for this one is a bit different than others and the synth is more present and up front. Liked all the tracks and all but the last goes on my playlist.

Ministry - Psalm 69 revisited.

This was an album that I played every day when it first came out. The big 3 in industrial for me was this album, NIN - Downward Spiral and Pig - Sinsation. It has been awhile since I have heard the whole album thought it is in my 220 CD changer so I do here tracks every once in a while on shuffle. This album came up randomly for me to revisit and over the last 10 years I have grown to dislike Al Jorgenson so I was not sure If I could still enjoy his early stuff. The first two tracks hit hard with New World Order and my favorite one Just one Fix. Other tracks like Psalm 69 and Scarecrow are also among my favorites with Scarecrow putting me in a trance where I feel like those marching hammers from The Wall focused on one thing and nothing will get in our way..... The problem for me with this album which was not a problem before are with the ambient tracks. I just lose focus with them. The Butthole Surfer track has lost its luster over the years. Overall this album is still great but to me it has dropped out of my top 100 (it was currently at 51)

Post Grunge/Rock ... Liked the opening track so I decided to listen to the whole thing. Did not care for much after that and only liked two of the five tracks. I liked the sound but the vocals at times did not fit for me....

Great opening track but the rest of the album was about average. There was one track I did not like.

Not a big fan of "Melodic" but this album had great reviews so I gave it a spin. At times this one had Nu Metal vibes too it. I did end up liking half the tracks on this one but none enough to make my playlist....

6 of the 8 tracks made my playlist. Some bluesy psych going on here which I liked much better than the last album I've heard from them. I believe they will be in Columbus Jan 24th with King Buffalo.... if I heard correctly which would make for a great show!

That show does not include All Them Witches. If it did, I might have made the trek. Been seeing a lot of desert/stoner bands lately. Not something I would listen to on the regular, but I love it live.

Looked into it deeper. And while it is not All Them Witches, JR Parks (a member of All Them Witches) is performing his new solo work as the opener for King Buffalo.

That probably was the confusion as youtube had All Them Witches playing there with King Buffalo. Now I am curious what his solo work sounds like...

Never heard of this group but liked the sample so I gave the album a listen. The first 3 tracks were great but then it took a drop of after that. The album over all could be a grower on me so it went to my playlist. This was sludgy and at times sounded a bit like Helmet but not really.... maybe it just gave off some Helmet vibes. Anyhow those first 3 tracks will get heavy rotation on my playlist.

This was for the most part a slower death sound and may have crossed into the Doom genre at times. I was really into Death Metal in the 90's and how I never heard of this band is beyond me. Will check out more from them.

I know when he played with King Buffalo it was acoustic. I saw he has an album that coming out soon or was just released. Not sure if the album is acoustic or not.

-Doom Metal. I had no idea this band was still around. Well, it was just one member with new players that put this one out. It wasn't that bad... liked the first 6 tracks while the last 5 I did not care for or were just OK.

Ancients - Beyond the Reach of the Sun (2024) ... 78.140

-Progressive Metal. This band was mentioned on my best albums of 2024 thread so I had to seek it out and give it a spin. I definitely hear the Opeth influence throughout. I really enjoyed it and with multiple listens it just may become a great album for me. Initial ratings would of placed this one in my top 20 album list for 2024. Will seek out other albums by them to listen to.

Dream Theater - Parasomnia (2025) ... 79.813
-Progressive Metal. Checked this one out this morning. Incredible instrumentation in extreme prog form throughout this one. Liked all of it though a very long album not sure I could listen to the whole thing again. Better in pieces from this time on. We have 7 tracks and one fill on this one and most of them are long, well it is prog so that is typical including a 19 minute finale. 6 of the 7 go on my playlist. Best Dream Theater album via my ratings though I really wasn't that much into prog back in the day.

Was surprised I had only heard one track previous to listening to this album. This one felt a bit different than earlier stuff as I found it kind of rushed and simplified.
