Zanesville's Parker Zinn (4) gets his lead off second with Cambridge shortstop Caleb Campbell (4) moving in behind him during Thursday's American Legion match-up at Don Coss Stadium.

Host Cambridge Post 84 had its offense cranked in high gear Thursday night to roll past Zanesville Post 29 in a doubleheader sweep in American Legion action at Don Coss Stadium.

Post 84 collected a pair of run rule victories by scores of 10-0 in game one, followed by a 14-4 victory in the nightcap to complete the sweep and improve to 4-2 on the young season..

"We played good ball tonight," Cambridge manager Ron Antill offered. "So far this season, we've either played real good or real bad. Tonight it was real good and that got us a pair of wins."

Jake Valentine turned in a dominating effort on the mound for Post 84 in the game one victory. Valentine tossed a five-inning no-hitter, finishing with eight Ks, four walks to collect the victory.

"Jake is our number one pitcher, no doubt," Antill added. "Jake is just an outstanding pitcher, I think he threw a no-hitter in high school ball this year. He was in complete control the whole game tonight."

Cambridge banged out 11 hits in the opening game, with Valentine helping his own cause with a single, double and RBI. Drew Yanico stroked a pair of base hits with three RBIs, with Caleb Campbell adding two singles with two RBIs. Blake Brumfield finished with a pair of singles for Post 84.

Bryce Murdock picked up a pair of RBIs on two sacrifice fly balls, with Blade Barclay and Gates Thompson each chipping in with singles.
Zanesville was taking the field for the first time this season, and head coach Randy Bonifant was pleased with his squad's effort.

"These were our first two games we have played this year," Bonifant explained. "It's been slow getting guys together, we were still missing a few guys tonight. In this age group a lot of the guys are working, so it can be tough at times."

Cambridge's Rylee Wilson (42) takes off for third base during Thursday's American Legion match-up with Zanesville at Don Coss Stadium.

"We killed ourselves with some sloppy errors tonight," Bonifant added. "But I like they way the guys played...they played hard which is what I want to see. We will get better, we had a few practices, but that's just not the same as getting in a game. But I'm pleased with our play overall tonight."

In game two, Post 84 wasted little time jumping out to the early lead with a fur run rally in the bottom of the first inning.

Hayden Loy, and Garrett Carpenter stroked RBI singles, with Brumfield adding picking up an RBI with a sacrifice fly ball.
Loy collected his second straight RBI hit in the second to extend the Post 84 lead out to 5-0, scoring Blade Barclay who led off with a solid single into center field.

Loy drew the starting assignment for Cambridge, and held Zanesville scoreless through two innings for the 5-0 lead.
Post 29 got on the board in the top of the third with Wes Houston picking up an RBI with a ground out to bring Kamyn Walker across the plate who reached with a base hit to pull within 5-1.

Cambridge exploded for a five run rally in the fourth frame to boost its lead out to 10-1. Loy banged out his third straight run scoring single, Rylee Wilson contributed an RBI single and Brumfield picked up an easy RBI with a bases loaded walk.
Zanesville reached Loy for three runs in the fifth to narrow the margin to 10-4, with Ethan Smith delivering the big hit in the inning with a single that plated a pair of RBIs.

Valentine came on in the fifth and promptly belted a solo home run over the left field fence to give Cambridge the 11-4 advantage.

"Hayden pitched well tonight, he got us out to a good lead," Antill said. "But I think he got a little tired and Zanesville was able to get a few runs off him. But he again gave us a solid outing on the mound."

Cambridge would then reach the 10 run mercy margin with a three run sixth inning, with Caleb Campbell's RBI base hit bringing the game to an end.

Loy got the win, working five innings allowing four runs on seven hits with six Ks and three walks. Nathan Davis took the pitching loss for Post 29, going five innings allowing 10 runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts, three walks.

Loy was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs to pace Cambridge's 17 hit second game attack, while Murdock doubled, singled and Barclay collected three singles with an RBI. Wilson chipped in with a pair of base hits with three RBIs. Carpenter singled twice with an RBI, Valentine added an RBI single along with his 'Big Fly' to pick up two RBIs.

Andy Ogle laced a double, and Campbell with his walk-off RBI base hit.

Zanesville was led offensively by Walker with a double, single with Smith picking up a pair of base hits with two RBIs.
