What would make it fair? That's easy... create more Divisions so the smaller DI schools don't have to compete against Mason in the post-season. It's ridiculous to say school size doesn't matter when comparing similar programs (culture, good coaching., etc).

This falls into the category of "fast runners make fast courses". Looking at the results there were a LOT of kids there that could be on the podium at State.

And with one of the biggest enrollments and best coaches, St X should be a favorite every year too.

Yes, the kid ran all year but was supposed to be ineligible starting with postseason (after conference).

Why would there be a need for 4 Divisions? What's wrong with a school of 400 boys competing against a school with 1300 boys?

What's the most you can stretch the divisions to make them "fair"? Can D4 go from 1 - 250? Is having 75 boys competing against 250 boys any more/less fair than 600 boys competing against 1,000 boys? IMO, it's hard for me to be convinced that 75 vs 150 is anywhere near the hardship that the...

So which is worse... competing against a school twice your size or competing against schools that literally have 600+ more kids than you do?

This is 100% true. I had a kid tell me last week that on his recruiting visit to a Div I school that the coach told him they have zero scholarships available to award because there are no kids leaving this year since they got an extra year of covid eligibility.

14 out of the 20 teams are in the top 20% in size.... so size is a HUGE part of it. Yes, good coaching/program will get a few small schools there every year, but not enough.

Looking at the Boys Div I OHSAA State results... below they're listed in order along with their enrollment size rankings in ( ). Take out the outliner (Louisville, which you will have a team/school like this every year) and the data proves that size does matter (at least this year)...

I would expect the biggest school in the State to be a Top 5 team yearly.... so expectations met.
