    State Meet Improvements

I was thinking this when I saw the boys DI mile splits at state. Something like 50+ under 4:50. A kid could be running 15:00 pace and not be in the top 50. Using Woodridge as an example: Add 60 boys (2 classrooms) to their enrollment making them DI and we would think of them as a 'good'...

    State XC Top 10 Finishes

It is simply a "what have you done for me lately" at the state level. Or in Minster's case, what have you done for me over the past quarter century. Everyone likes to pull out the "except" or ___ out of ___ years. Filling in the numbers that fit what they want. Woodridge is 19 of 20. Why...

    State XC Top 10 Finishes

Here is the 2023 list of active top 10 finishes at the state championship. I think this demonstrates “state” success rather than “regional” success of just advancing to state. A one-year slip and schools must start from scratch. This year, streaks by Granville girls (14), Beavercreek girls (7)...

    Best Ohio XC Team EVER?

The Colerain team in the late 70's or early 80's would have to be considered wouldn't they? Their 4th and 5th men were sub 4:25 guys I think.

Can Mason B & G repeat another double win at DI State meet

I have always attributed talk about 1-5 or 1-7 team splits as something to talk about. Other sports can talk and compare teams via, passing offense, rebounds, kills, errors, etc. So, nerds of XC like most of us, find something to discuss. I would not be overly concerned if my team had 4 sub...

    Regional Qualifiers

Thank you so much. I did not even know that option existed. I will give it a try and again, thank you for your help.

    Regional Qualifiers

How do I view live results at the Pickerington regional? Whenever I access Columbus Running Company it takes me to X (twitter). When I tried to view live results from CRC earlier this season, it always showed error messages and ancient results, never live. It could very well be my lack of...

    All-Time Lists Update - UPDATED 4 November - Boys' 4x1,2,4,8 added

Is Todd Black from NW Ohio or just coach there? I remember Hallbrin upsetting Zishka in the mile in '80, Haley from Lancaster winning in '81 in 4:11-4:12 but didn't Monske (DeVilbiss?) win in '82? If my memory is correct, he is a Toledo city guy addition.

    All-Time Lists Update - UPDATED 4 November - Boys' 4x1,2,4,8 added

Due to all your posts, I know that you know the sport well, and likely meant what you explained above. Off topic, but I was using the context to pontificate about just how strong Lancaster was at that time. '77-78 was my first year coaching in Ohio and they were in our league. I was...

    All-Time Lists Update - UPDATED 4 November - Boys' 4x1,2,4,8 added

Zishka was very far from a one man team. They had 5-6 under 1:57 and a dozen or more under 2:00 and something like 8-10 under 4:35. They also had nearly every event with decent coverage. They came very close to scoring a perfect score in the '80 SE district. Also, unless Bellaire changed the...

    Regional Qualifiers

Davidson had the second longest active streak (7) of top 10 state finishes, behind only St. X (14). To fail to make it to regional is quite a step down from what they are accustomed to.

SOLVED - Request for help from Community

According to this site, Sharsu ran 9:24 to set the age 14 record and freshman, then later in the season ran 9:15. I guess it depends upon whether he had a birthday between the two races. Either way, his 9:15 was the freshmen record according to this site...

You may have this, but Sharsu (Austintown Fitch) set the then national HS freshman record of 9:15.6

Can Mason B & G repeat another double win at DI State meet

It is rare that state champion teams in DI, DIII and even DII which has the least deviation of enrollment from highest to lowest, come from the lowest 10-15% enrollments in their respective divisions. However, it is not rare at all for them to come from the top 10-15%.

Can Mason B & G repeat another double win at DI State meet

I think everyone joining in this conversation agrees that many factors go into successful programs. However, when all other factors are there including great coaching, socio-economics, community support.... enrollment size then plays a major role. Put the excellent Mason coaches at a school...

    Tiffin Carnival

1-I agree. That goes for teams looking to move up divisions as well. I don't fault them in any way, but think they should assess which races meet their needs within their division and construct their schedule accordingly. 2-Yes, some meets do not allow teams moving up. Meet management has a...

    Tiffin Carnival

Just one opinion, but I think teams should only run and be permitted to run in their assigned division. Can a DI team move down? No. What if a program the size of Mason is running their 3rd or 4th JV squad? No. Can a really talented DI girls team run DIII boys? No. By not allowing larger...

'Everybody benefits': Loveland teacher pushes for track and field expansion

I am echoing what any coach or track and field fan knows, but that magic number was not used for lacrosse and situations in other sports. While it is a guide, I am not sure it is not ignored if the wheel squeaks loud enough. Are the track and cross-country people being too passive? Too...

'Everybody benefits': Loveland teacher pushes for track and field expansion

My source was a track coach in Columbus City about 10 years ago. He said the contracts went through conference which allowed teams to avoid prolonging the season unless they had district and beyond caliber athletes. As yj said, many thought they are doing a service to those that were not...

'Everybody benefits': Loveland teacher pushes for track and field expansion

Another problem in past years that may still be an issue is that large city schools (Columbus & Cleveland for example), pay their track coaches for service through the conference meet. Many coaches/teams end their season there. Unless they have an outstanding individual and in this case 9...
