I'm guessing some combo of talking about the overnight camps lawsuit publicly (Twitter), and a difference of opinion on keeping fall sports as is, calling them off entirely or flipping fall/spring sports.

The fact that you list so many choices suggests that perhaps it is just best to wait and let this all play out. Clearly, the Yappi "experts" don't really know, so why throw so much fuel on the fire?

We're about to be four months removed from the last OHSAA-sanctioned competition, with an increasingly uncertain future on the sports we post on this board to talk about. The well-liked head honcho has been canned for no apparent reason, with the OHSAA's explanation as to why and what's going on being far from transparent. I hope that a "poll -> elaborate below" can provide some better discussion and expression of theories on this topic, as other outlets (social media & the other thread on this) got muddy.

If there's growing opinion that this poll and discussion thread "throws fuel on the fire", I can respect that and I'll close this/request its deletion. But, we got hardly anything to really talk about besides Will COVID-19 Eliminate HS Football?!?, Pt. 6 and "OHSAA Screwed the Kids Out of Sports" and this is a topic that is at least somewhat interesting as it possibly portends to the future of Ohio high school sports.

There all swamps. I've been vocal before about the OHSAA and IHSAA needing some major changes that won't happen because $ is king. The whole NFHS is a swamp if we want to expand further.

Easiest way to change things is member schools take a stand and drain the swamp. Ultimately the board is to work, or are supposed to work, for member schools. The OHSAA has had a long history is filth and slim and Jerry was trying his damnedest to change that mentality. He took them from very little member connection to a pretty relationship with students and administration. Not everything was going to happen overnight and there was/is a ton yet to change. Judging by the outpouring support he's received, something was going right.

Some combo of:
**DeWine wanted it
**disagreement about direction of when to play football
**comments about the litigation/settlement related to team camps

The theory about the PPP loan issue being in play seems interesting b/c that impacts the finances of the association, but I don't know enough about that one to put it into the "where there's smoke, there's fire" bucket.

Jerry didn’t fit in with the rest of the corrupt ones.

Jerry was a good man who has really been great for the OHSAA. he came from a good background and he’s the type of person i would want in that position. he was a down to earth and honest guy. Dewine didn’t help him one bit, left the tough decisions up to Jerry. Snodgrass got screwed over.

This Dispatch article is a good start into learning why- https://t.co/rjK5KNmW6j?amp=1

Shouting matches with employees? If you're already on thin ice with your bosses, and then you completely lose the trust of the people underneath you, your days are numbered in any organization.

Did he lose his employees or did his employees lose him? Again, OHSAA has a slimy past. People are often resistant to change. Three sides to every story and this is just one.

Some old b####y women that are extremely high maintenance and resentful in that office. Part of the swamp that needs drained. Fire them all.

Follow the money...

$2.2 million dollar surplus / rainy day fund less than two years ago that is now gone.
Yeah, that's what happens when you cancel bball tourney and spring sports. That is why I am 90% confident we will have a football season, because OHSAA cannot lose the revenue. It is why OHSAA went to 12 teams in the playoffs, money, money, and more money.

The number one responsibility of the OHSAA senior administrator is to manage the budget and generate revenue. It is all well and good that he got along with other ADs and coaches and whatever smiley, happy, fuzzy good feeling things that he did but you have to make some darn money. Put the championships in places where the most people will go with the lowest possible costs at the best times. Get a better broadcasting deal. Get rid of the dead weight in the organization. In short, run the organization like a business or find a deputy that will and go around and be the face of the OHSAA. Because without enough money, none of this matters. It just doesn't.
