Are you a true West Sider??

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
My haunting memory of this day that I can’t get rid of is that snowy thanksgiving day in 1956 when Elder won the GCL and West Hi won the PHSL and the game was hyped as the City Championship. My brother was Elder’s Captain. West Hi won 20-13.
I guess the reason I cannot let this go is because I am a True Westsider??

My dad graduated from West Hi the year before that game. He always remembered the good old days when both schools respected the neighborhood competition.

I remember hearing a story that Pete Rose played on the West Hi team that year. Is this correct?
The link below tell us he played both football and baseball for West High.

The bar area at Kroger is really weird. I don't want to drink beer in a grocery store. I don't want to place bets there, either.
The bar at the Dent Kroger has live music on most Saturday evenings. I agree, it’s weird. Wonder how many guys take their dates to the Kroger bar?

I've never gotten a beer at Kroger, but there are usually people drinking there when it's open and I've seen a few people walking around the store with a beer in hand while shopping.

Agreed, it is weird. I didn't know the Dent one had the bar, I've seen it at the Oakley location. The Oakley one has separate beer and wine bars inside the store. It's very strange.

I cannot imagine going to Kroger to place bets, but I guess they are appealing to the completely degenerate gambler??

Drive a half hour or more to a casino to place a bet or do it right in my neighborhood? I guess I’d be a degenerate.

Place it on your phone? I’m not a big gambler but I thought mobile betting was coming 1/1.

edit: note to self, patience, Orin. EHS already addressed this. Read thru the thread then comment.

You are right. I don’t even know why we need kiosks. I was just responding to the idea that placing a kiosk bet while in Kroger would be a degenerate move.

^That stinks, wonder what happened. Hopefully they consider another spot. There was a planned development next to Lowe's, but haven't heard anything on that in a while. Maybe next to the planned Bdubs by Kroger?

Heard a rumor that Sunnyside Grill in Delhi is planning to close in April. Apparently, they haven't been getting the business and the fire and police folks haven't been supporting it as they had hoped.

Also, does anyone know if Kenning's is still closing at the end of the year? I see they still have a hiring message on their sign, although that's been there since the summer.

The Port Development Authority of Greater Cincinnati received $17.7 million from the state to demolish a few dozen properties in Hamilton County. Of the major projects, the only Westside related one is the abandoned silos between Beekman Street and the Mill Creek. https://goo.gl/maps/vGnkgmFAaaUDyR7U6

There are also a number of houses around Addyston, Price Hill, Westwood, Delhi, etc. that will be demolished. Here's the full list. https://content.govdelivery.com/att...-Revitalization-Program-Approved-Projects.pdf Hamilton County starts on page 7.

I noticed today that they tore the old bank down across the street from Our Lady of Lourdes. Rumor is that they are putting in a new Gold Star since they recently closed the one in the shopping center. No new updates on Auto Zone.

Very strange since the old one was a rock's throw away.

I dont think I've ever seen a crowded Gold Star.

Not being crowded is one more thing in Gold Star’s favor for me. Skyline is OK but the lunch crowd is a big NO for me.

I’m guessing the Western Hills Gold Star move is a move away from the people that congregate around their old location. We had the pleasure of watching a couple sit on a curb and shoot up while we ate dinner. The bus stop across the street kept a steady stream of characters hanging around also. I can’t wait for the new location to open. They used to have more patrons than recent. Maybe some will come back to the improved locale?

Ahhh, your a Gold Star fan, explains everything lol.

But seriously, won't the same issues regarding people congregating be the same at the new location since it's so incredibly close?

Ah, I see you’re a member of the Skyline cult.

No, the new location will be nothing like being in the shopping center. They won’t have people buying a Thin Mint just so they can shoot up in the restroom.

Proud member lol. Gold star is my least favorite Cincy chili, they do have solid burgers though.

My question is why wouldn't that happen at the new location, it's what, a quarter of a mile away.

Because it’s much easier for riff raff to mill around and loiter at Western Hills Plaza and blend in there vs. trying to blend in at the corner of Glenway and Muddy Creek/Glenmore.

It’s true, it’s true. Trust me …

People ride the bus to Western Hills shopping center and hang there all day. They aren’t the kind of traffic that keep the cash registers churning. The bus stop used to be IN the parking lot right outside the doors of the stores. Target only agreed to build their store after the center agreed to get rid of the bus stop. Now the stop is out on Glenway right next to the former Gold Star. There will be nothing like that down at Muddy Creek.

I also like all Cincinnati Chili, including Skyline. Gold Star happens to be my favorite. For some reason that triggers the cult members and they feel the need to lob insults to protect their self esteem. I never understood it.
