Dublin Coffman 2022

Last warmer night of the HS football season probably. Tonight's games will be in a different element. Happy for Coach Ward and the Lions of Gahanna for breaking through a bit and beating PC twice and showing clearly, they are the best team in CO. Of course, they need to beat New Albany next week to officially lay claim to that, but that to most of us is a foregone conclusion. The first game was a 14-point Gahanna win, but the Lions held NA to under 200 yards and more than doubled the Eagles up yardage wise and will do so again most likely next week.

Ward's son has emerged as legit passing threat in his Soph. Yr. and he has some talented guys to throw to. Hubbard is an excellent all purpose back who also caught a TD pass should be too much for NA. Speaking of NA they have a very nice team no question and will play with a chip on their shoulder hearing how they will likely get rolled up a bit. They have a nice stable of athletes in the secondary and a good trio of LB's as well. The problem will be up front where Gahanna has a nice advantage on offense and Hubbard will get to the second level with speed and momentum. If they bring another guy or two up? They will get hurt deeper in the passing game and on quick slants.

UA was hurt by losing their QB and best RB who played just a bit, but there was no room in his 2 carries. Janowicz is a nice sturdy athlete who is a integral defensive piece and has a lot of talent as a QB but not the polish of the injured Hayek and threw a couple too many picks last night including a big one that was returned a long ways to help NA get that 14-0 lead. UA never recovered fully , and despite having a few forays into NA territory only scored once. They along with Liberty and Davidson have really nice Soph classes and many played last night. UA isn't going anywhere . They will be here again and again the next few years and may be with a different result.

Liberty did just enough gaining just 200 yards but only gave up about 230 themselves. They scored on one big play and then late to seal the victory holding P-Burg to 3 points and did a nice job on Walendzak holding him to under 100 yards as we thought they may. Springfield will run past them next week .

11-4-1 vs. the Pasteur line in the play-offs going 3-0 last night. Final 8 next week and some clear favs including S-Field , Gahanna , and St Ed's over Mentor. Lakota Moeller should be a good one with a smaller lean towards Big Moe.

Some college opinions starting with OSU- Indiana, went OVER 58.5with the Buckeyes getting some frustration form last weeks gale force winds. Indiana would give up big yards and points to just about any top 50 program Defensive metrics are very bad. Bucs should get to mid 40's even in less than ideal conditions today and the wind won't be so bad anyway. Rain won't stop them.

Under 49 UK - Vanderbilt, UK defense is still good overall adn will beat up this club who scores almost no points on the road in SEC play. UK not dynamic themselves, on offense and Levis is about 80 percent as we have seen.

OVER 68 LA Tech - UTSA - Tons of plays run and less than strong resistance.

UNDER 42 Boston College - NC State - BC will have trouble scoring at all here and NC State will be content to grind here. 31-10 Stays under , but I think BC may score less offensively, hopefully the offense doesn't contribute to NC State's point total.

Texas Tech - 3.5 Kansas - We had TCU over Texas tech last week and TT was actually wining late into the third, Had Kansas last week playing with great energy to get to the bowl eligible mark which they hadn't been near in 14 seasons. they tore the goal posts down last week at home after beating OSU. Texas Tech with three left wants to ensure getting to the bowl game and will be more focused today and KU might be ina let down spot. ML is good as well.

Two Ugly Dogs

Hawaii + 11.5 Utah State- Hawaii is a pretty good home dog on the Island, and Utah State plays right to competition o the road, wining some ugle close games vs. near this class .

UConn + 14.5 Liberty- Liberty also plays right to the competition they play barely beating Gardner Webb for instance and then beating Arkansas last week. UCONN is 8-2 vs. the number and is incredibly near Bowl Eligibility .

Texas - 7 TCU- Not going to say a well-coached TCU club is all smoke and mirrors but they are living well as if they are ringing Salvation Army bells and training guide dogs. Word is they will serve T-Day meals to the homeless in a couple weeks. They have been fortunate to play against teams with injured QB's some of the games we have been on them adn been lucky when QB's go down in game. [K-State in a game we lost} Texas at home is a different team adn will close this one out by a couple scores.

Auburn PICK Texas A'm - Tigers actually laying a point and half now, A'M is fading worse than a summer tan in Scotland, and Auburn can run the rock and plays really hard for the interim coach. Tigers will grind and A'M will go through the motions possibly.

SO Miss + 6 at Coastal Carolina - Pure numbers and PR , [Now at 4.5 , I made it 3.5 }

Kind of a cool last word for the team from its coach . Slightly more uplifting than “. We were out coached We were out toughed “ out disciplined “ and out everythinged.lol. To be fair that was just for public consumption and the Rocks HC in a very similar situation as coach Whiting said something similar in private and the emotion right after losing a playoff game is understandable and can be reactionary . Coach has said a few similar things over his time in Dub, just thought this was a great message after the season

Incredible swing of the spread in the Vikings -Bills game based on Josh Allen's status , with the line going from 8.5 to 3 in a couple days. Saw the 3 and would trust Case Keenum at this price. Great middle possibility but I didn't grab the larger number on the Vikings so I settle for the Bills at -3 which is up to 6.5 now.

TB being favored over a Seattle team that has definitely played better than they have was seen as a chance to pounce on a bad line. Well looking a bit closer as well as the Seahawks have played, they have been living right and I really believe that TB may have turned their season around a bit with that last drive to beat the rams in a ugly game. Seattle losing to SF and Atlanta on the road, barely beating the Lions on the road is making me think that a game in Germany vs. Brady and a getting healthier Bucs team may not be an ideal spot for them this morning. [9.30 kick} GREAT story the Hawks are and almost all got them wrong from a season win total point of view [Already gone over} . TB - 2.5 or ML is a decent value.

Grabbed the Bears and gulped slightly as it's not a very comfortable proposition to take the Bears to win any game. But this is as much against the Lions who despite winning last week basically did nothing but catch some inexplicable throws from Aaron Rodgers last week and didn't do much of anything on offense getting badly outgained. Kind of a fluke seeing as though Rodgers rarely has turned the ball over in his career. Laid the 2.5 [Now 3} and ML is also OK . Goff is bad on the road and especially outside. Slow defense like the Patriots without the good scheme and discipline the Pats have trying to catch Fields ?

Denver finally snapped out of the deep offensive funk but they are hardly 'Fixed" completely, but the Titans despite going to OT vs. the Chiefs hardly even made a first down in the second half and OT of that loss. Did a great job on defense but are still offensively challenged and while I can't take Denver flat getting the 2.5 teased up over a TD is desirable in what should be a lower scoring game. SF at - 7 off of a bye is also an excellent teaser leg as they are getting healthier by the week are rested and the Chargers don't match up that well up front with these Niners. I think the Niners could roll here .

Other teaser legs are the Steelers at home getting 1.5 [Saints a road fav ? } Steelers with Pickett are ugly offensively, but they get TJ Watt back who is as valuable to his team on defense as anyone in the league is [1-10 w/o him} and the Packers and Browns grabbing more points . Browns are hard to be on as they are very creative in ways, they can screw things up, BUT the Dolphins defense is struggling to the point where they have to outscore people only to win .

Another winning day overall in CFB with a 3-0 mark with teasers helping out some of the underperforming plays. Texas which made a good not great TCU defense look like the 86 Bears was especially bad and a couple team doing almost nothing offensively hurt some solid OVER plays which would usually come in fairly comfortably. Two NFL sides with point spreads just a bit too high are the Giants at home and the Raiders at home , laying a larger chunk, ML parlay is something that looks reasonable at a good price. Both should win but don't want to lay the 5.5 and 4.5 necessarily.

Have the JAX- KC Chiefs game going into the lower to mid 50's which would be a good OVER play. KC defense is MEH as we know and the Jags can be leaky , especially against this class. Chiefs as a big fav at home aren';t always reliable but they should score some points. 34-21 ? 31-17 ?

Thanks BB. Coffman play-off draw wasn't ideal, would have been better off with Liberty's seed lol. We all thought when the seeds were determined in R-2 that most CO teams had favorable draws, but Liberty probably had the best draw. No offense to NW Ohio D-1 schools but in recent history they haven't been as strong as Dayton area R-2 teams certainly and CO in general as well. It hasn't been easy but getting Whitmer in round one was better than getting a handful of other possibilities including say Marysville or a GWOC team. The GWOC R-2 teams are stronger than CO top teams this year, other years it's been a close argument. Not this year though.

Liberty is an interesting story as a program, with the school only having one head coach in its history. Hale built the program from scratch. When I came to this area in the earlier 2000's , Powell was a more sparsely populated area and there were a few houses we looked at there and were quasi close to choosing. Although only a few miles away, Dublin seemed more connected to the city of Columbus. So that feeling prevailed and that was that. Having a more established but still relatively new community seemed like a better choice and it was a good one in the end.

Have gotten to know a couple handfuls of folks up in Powell over the years including a few with kids who played football. Good folks and a solid community and as Huddle legend Walking Boss liked to point out some pretty good talent in the female mom realm lol. [He was right} . First saw Liberty vs. Coffman in 2008, a big rebuild year for the Rocks after a great as close to a state champion team as the Rocks have had in 2007. Rocks won a close 10-7 decision over then D-2 Liberty. Liberty would move to D-1 the very next year and play the Rocks at the Shoe in the old Herbie classic, and that excellent Rocks team would eviscerate the Patriots 52-0. They would play the next 6 years with the Rocks wining each year to start the series at 8-0 with an average margin of 17 points. Didn't play in 2016 and 2017 after league realignment but met in the R-2 Regional final in 2018 and Liberty who had shut out region fav R-Burg the week before shutting down the Rocks 21-7 to get their first win over them.

Remember very well driving home from Marion after the Rocks beat Whitmer and listening to the score wrap-up show, and they were interviewing Hale after his big win vs Burg and they brought up the 0-8 Coffman record. He was stone silent for a few seconds before kind of blowing that off, but I remember thinking and saying to my wife and the friends we were driving with from the game that this wasn't good, Hale's silence was telling. He was pi$$$DD off. Liberty had a great plan, really good size up front and won the game and got that monkey off of his back.

Since that 8-0 start , Liberty is 3-2 vs Coffman including two play-off wins , the last one an especially excruciating loss for the Rocks in what turned out to be Crabtree's last game in the 2020 Covid year. That year the Patriots were outclassed by Springfield the next week after emptying their bucket hanging on vs. Coffman. Coffman matched up much better overall than Liberty did and would have given them a much better go playing at home. Crabtree ended his Coffman tenure 9-2 vs. Hale but the two losses were play-off losses. Stokes first year the Rocks were messy and turnover prone and Liberty cruised 34-7. This year the Rocks beat Liberty 14-9 and earned it outplaying the Patriots over 48 minutes with excellent defense and a ball control attack.

Liberty again appears to be over matched but Springfield and lost to Coffman and 4 other teams this year [ No shame in losing to ST X, Pick Central, and I guess Coffman but Orange 23-7 to wrap up the reg. season was a head scratcher} That result hardly portends a deeper play-off run to be sure. BUT again, the draw was outstanding, and this isn't that surprising. Whitmer was beatable, and so was Jerome who wasn't the same team later in the year. Then Perrysburg. P-Burg was very impressive vs. Berlin, but as solid a year as the Bears had and it is an emerging top tier program in CO, it isn't there 'YET". They don't have that established success in the play-offs like a Liberty has. Liberty as we thought was going to do a better job controlling the run game vs. P-Burg and they did just that scoring on a big play in the passing game and only gave up a FG . Were ahead 7-3 and scored very late to put the game away 14-3.

Hale was 3-5 vs the great Brian White of Davidson and is 5-6 overall vs the Cats. Through the 2017 season Liberty and Hale were a combined 1-12 vs Coffman and Davidson losing by an average score of 28-11. Liberty certainly has taken some good strides as a program since then and has been more solid overall than the once pre-eminent D-1 programs on this side of town.

Pasteur has Liberty is a 28-point underdog to Springfield, [Game at London } and that is a very sharp number. The average spread in the 4 D-1 games this weekend is 17 points. I made this game 27 . In fact, Louie has Ed's a 23-point choice vs Mentor and I made it 24, and Gahanna is a 16-point fav, which I had 17 [ Would make it 17.5 if taking action lol} and the only one I wasn't within a point of his number was Lakota West and Big Moe. I made it a PICK EM , Louie has it LW - 4.

A good weekend overall with a strong CFB showing winning more of the close ones than losing. NFL was the opposite. teasers overal were profitable, and totals and ML plays were a wash overall but the straights were hurt by a couple teams that blew two touchdown leads at home in the 4th quarter. The Bears were ion control with Fields doing his superman bit on the run again this week but it came apart quickly as the Bears once thought of decent defense unraveled a bit but it was Fields who kind of got them right back in by throwing a pick six. The Bears came right back to take the lead with a Fields long TD run but of course missed the XP and the defense did what they do and gave up a TD and they lose 31-30. The thing is the loss is probably a positive as the have found out that Fields can lead them at QB, but they will get a better draft position by losing each week no matter how excruciating. Been a really nice month overall

The Bills game gets its own category. Bills are really adept at giving up big plays to lose close games. I mean Cousins could have heaved the ball out of the stadium and Justin Jefferson would have found a way to catch it . Knock the ball down and game is over. Josh Allen just handle a simple snap or two and game over. But the football God's would not allow it on this day. The Vikings are certainly living right but the Bills have a good knack at not closing game well and losing the close ones the last couple seasons. This one is up there with only having to defend against 13 seconds and couldn't do it last year vs. the Chiefs. 4th and 18? Really? Knowing where the ball was going?

Raiders officially hit rock bottom when the allowed geriatric QB Matt Ryan running as if he had a piano on his back to go for 40 yards and eventually win the game. Amazingly as Ryan was about 8 yards past the line of scrimmage a DB who could have made the tackle thought covering the receiver was the better choice. Field awareness classes wouldn't be enough for that guy. Holy crap, it's if he was shaving points and wanted the loss. Never seen a more unaware player. He literally ran away from where Ryan was running way past the line of scrimmage to stay with a receiver. That is what this play was the official rock bottom of the raiders season lol. Of course Carr, only throws to Adams no matter what and the game ended on a throw to him as he was well covered. He was in tears after the gamer at the podium as he knows this Raiders season and probably his time in Vegas is done.

Niners came in for us in two teasers [Best leg of the weekend as they were pretty much guaranteed to at least win as a 7-point fav. teased down to 1 } and a ML parlay [With Miami} but came up short in the flat bet by a point as despite dominating the stat board played too conservatively against a Chargers team who was skill position depleted by injury. Niners slept walked in the first half knowing they would eventually wear them down and win. Getting on teams off the bye is more than not a positive thing overall in the long term, BUT sometimes you see a rust factor. SF certainly wasn't that sharp early on.

Tampa Bay as we thought was a really good play in Germany and they came through and didn't cough up a lead. I really think that they will get rolling a bit and while not a SB level team most likely, they win that awful division and could win a game in the play-offs. Was feeling really good after getting that win in the morning and holding two 2 TD leads in the 4th with homer teams, with the Bills and a team playing a truly awful road team in the Lions [Bears aren't trustworthy obviously, but they were the right side here but got the wrong result.} But the NFL is as hard to beat as any pro league bar none. No game is over anymore. More blown leads this year than any in recent memory.

Last night, didn't play anything in the MNF game but watched it. Philly with 4 turnovers and not being able to get off of the field easily [ Defense on the field for a whopping 81 Plays} loses for the first time. So they go to a team that got a needed B-12 shot with a fresh new face as coach [ not in age but in energy} and perspective and a competent QB with Ryan back under center for Ehlinger who clearly wasn't ready just yet {If ever} This week they go to Indy on a shorter week and will play a team that can run the football with Jonathan Taylor who is better than what the Commanders just had, at RB ON THE ROAD , after being on the field for 81 plays? Rushing dog at home getting more than a} was an obvious play overnight, [Line is now at 6.5} and I think it should be a good competitive game. Eagles bubble burst a bit and as good as they have been and the confidence that comes with that success, this takes a little something from them.

Playing physical divisional games always takes a little more out of teams physically and mentally. Add in the defense being on the field over 80 plays getting run on? If Philly can come back adn take care of business adn win by double digits on the road? I'll be impressed and pay the man.

SF only wining by six obviously left a bunch of points on the field, but rewatching some of the red zone trips that didn't pan out, it looks as if it wasn't just the rust off of a bye week, or a break in the momentum, but also a case of the injured guys [along with newcomer McCaffrey} coming back and not having played together. They go to Arizona a team that did just beat a reeling Rams team that is done , both playing with a back-up QB, and are laying it on the road. [7.5- 8} Check Murray's status, but SF has advantages everywhere along the LOS on both sides and key offensive piece Ertz who is out at TE for the season. [Knee} Hopefully it comes down a bit but it is definite teaser range.

In CFB we had two 'ugly" dogs that cashed pretty comfortably with UCONN and Hawaii both covering at home with UCONN winning the game outright getting a couple TD's. UCONN is 9-2 against the number and has covered 6 straight and is 5-1 straight up. Great coaching job by Jim Mora and this week they go to West Point to play the disappointing fading Cadets. Underperforming vs. the number and they have lost the last two scoring a combined 16 points in losses to Air Force [In Texas} and on the road at Troy. UCONN is playing their last game with momentum. Grabbing 10.5 with the Huskies again this week is like sticking with the run until someone stops it. Another lower scoring game for the Cadets vs. a team that will try to keep its momentum and is playing really well coming off a big win vs. a solid Liberty team who had just beaten Arkansas.

Also looking at Hawaii who has bene staying under the number for us on the Island and play a UNLV team that has been a road favorite 12 times in the last 14 seasons and is 2-10 in that role. Rainbow Warriors currently getting 11.5 the same number they were getting last week vs. Utah State as we cashed that with the RW losing by 7.

I don't know. Maybe high school football since this is the high school football forum.
Ok , so as a new member what exactly about Dublin Coffman 2022 piqued your interest ? How long have you been reading ? First time ? If so why did you happen to stop by the Coffman thread ? They were eliminated two weeks ago

Love the new member trolls who stop by periodically . His next post will be , “. I didn’t know there were rules. 😂. It’s like they appear out of thin air 😂. Yes I find this very funny that new members ( old trolls ) care so much what is and isn’t posted here or have in trolling me .

Live in New Bremen. Was interested in how the old minster coach was doing with the fan base. Got lost in all the CFB and NFL stuff. Don't really care about all the betting noise. If you like it that's fine. Just figure that might fit better in their proper places. Guess not.

So how is coffman hoops looking this year then?

I am sorry. Did I violate some rule?

Just got curious after two full seasons ? Hoops program has faded . Don’t know much how they will do. Why do you care what fits where ? I think you’re full of chit. You come to see how the football program and coach are doing two years after he’s been here and two weeks after their season ended ? K 😂

Didn't know yappi existed. Heard people talking about it at the ansonia game. Again...I am sorry. Probably just my OCD coming out a little. I can tell I might have made you angry.
