Texas GOP Platform calls for full repeal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and a referendum on whether Texas should secede

The new platform would call for:

Requiring Texas students “to learn about the humanity of the preborn child,” including teaching that life begins at fertilization and requiring students to listen to live ultrasounds of gestating fetuses.
Amending the Texas Constitution to remove the Legislature’s power “to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.”
Treating homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice,” language that was not included in the 2018 or 2020 party platforms.
Deeming gender identity disorder “a genuine and extremely rare mental health condition,” requiring official documents to adhere to “biological gender,” and allowing civil penalties and monetary compensation to “de-transitioners” who have received gender-affirming surgery, which the platform calls a form of medical malpractice.
Changing the U.S. Constitution to cement the number of Supreme Court justices at nine and repeal the 16th Amendment of 1913, which created the federal income tax.
Ensuring “freedom to travel” by opposing Biden’s Clean Energy Plan and “California-style, anti-driver policies,” including efforts to turn traffic lanes over for use by pedestrians, cyclists and mass transit.
Declaring “all businesses and jobs as essential and a fundamental right,” a response to COVID-19 mandates by Texas cities that required customers to wear masks and limited business hours.
Abolishing the Federal Reserve, the nation’s central bank, and guaranteeing the right to use alternatives to cash, including cryptocurrencies.

100 % all in. Give power back to the individual, the way the founding fathers wanted it to be. I would also add make it unlawful for any govt. building to banish smoking.

When I read this I have a range of emotions.

First, I like Ohio for the most part, but why is it always states like Texas, Alabama, Louisiana or Kentucky that come up with the best ideas. Still happy to live in Ohio, but ideas like these are just way more forward thinking than Ohio.

Texas is increasingly Hispanic and Democrats just thought that an extremely conservative group of migrant Catholics would vote for them automatically forever. Oops.

Parts of the platform are ridiculous. I don't think having students listen to ultrasounds is a good idea. Somebody's going to get mad and go against the intended message. If you really want to reduce the number of abortions, and I do, this is not the way to do it.

Socialism? In Texas?
I think you know better than that!

Actually, I don't agree with all of their points, but this one is perhaps the area I most agree with. The government determining who is important and who is not to conduct trade is highly offensive to the principle of each person having the right to pursue happiness and conduct business on a level playing field.

I believe a person has the right to invest in whatever they want, to pursue an income for themselves, except for businesses where EVERYONE IS EQUALLY APPLIED TO THE LAW. We may prohibit anyone from conducting certain business, but to prohibit a mom and pop from selling paint from their store during the pandemic while other large vendors were permitted to do so is by definition picking winners and losers, something the government should not engage in outside of awarding specific contracts.

That point made here is not socialist, but extremely capitalist in nature.

The platform bullet basically says the government has no authority over commerce in an emergency, which is ludicrous.

68. Jobs Are Essential: We urge the Texas State Legislature to adopt legislation that recognizes and establishes all businesses and jobs as essential and a fundamental right. Governments do not have the authority to determine what entities are essential during an emergency.

I would love them to declare jobs as a right.

There ended up being a problem where Wal-Mart could sell furniture because they also sold groceries but the furniture store couldn't sell furniture because they didn't sell groceries. The backlash is understandable. The government can never be perfect in an emergency, but this particular bullet point is far from ludicrous. The PPP loans can't account for a demand crisis anymore. Unless you're Wal-Mart.

I understand the backlash, the examples from you and d4fan make perfect sense. That's not what the bullet point says. It's saying the government doesn't have the authority, not that it should do a better job.

Govt, should have very little authority over anything: no. 1 the govt. is very good at screwing things up, no. 2 they apply their own political ideological ( or is that idiotological) spin on everything - green agenda is a good ex. Free markets are the best markets not govt. controlled markets.

Texas GOP....getting more extreme:

Rejecting “the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and [holding] that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States”
Requiring students “to learn about the dignity of the preborn human,” including that life begins at fertilization
Treating homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice”
Locking the number of Supreme Court justices at 9
Getting rid of the constitutional power to levy income taxes
Abolishing the Federal Reserve
Rejecting the Equal Rights Amendment
Returning Christianity to schools and government
Ending all gun safety measures
Abolishing the Department of Education
Arming teachers
Requiring colleges to teach “free-market liberty principles”
Defending capital punishment
Dictating the ways in which the events at the Alamo are remembered
Protecting Confederate monuments
Ending gay marriage
Withdrawing from the United Nations and the World Health Organization
Calling for a vote “for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”

Mature response. You don't think the platform is fairly extreme?
What’s funny is it’s more mature than you downplaying what the actual Taliban does. If you want mature responses, start putting some actual and real thought into your posts. Less than 1% of your posts that are longer than 1-2 sentences are your actual thoughts. 99% of your posts are copy and paste jobs or throwing out one liners about Trump/Whatever Republican did something stupid. And you want mature responses? Grow up.

Did I say it wasn’t extreme? Oh right, I forgot you’re one of those partisan hacks who thinks if I don’t agree with everything you say, I think the opposite.

Educating the masses with mainstream facts, articles and video. Is it the Taliban? No. Is it fairly extreme and UnAmerican? Yes.

This is the party platform...a lot of craziness including overturning an election, seceding from the union and rolling back civil rights.
