Hello fellow Vikings, we through the halfway point of basketball season and felt now is a good time to open up the thread for the upcoming season. So far what we know is the Vikings are expected to return a good chunk of upperclassmen both soon to be Juniors and Seniors as well as a good chunk of underclassmen. The 2019 season went a lot better than expected and finished above .500 at 6-4 for the 1st time since 2015 but both teams failed to qualify for the postseason in tough regions. Here is how last seasons schedule shaped up from last season. Also to note this will be the first season since 2003 that VASJ will play an independent due to the NCL cancelling their football sponsorship schedule. Several NCL Schools have opted to schedule each other due to the result.

2019 Results: Record 6-4:12th in D-V R18
NCL Record (2-1): 2nd in NCL White

Wk 1 vs CVCA L 25-28
Wk 2 @ Collinwood W 41-0
Wk 3 vs Waterloo W 17-0
Wk 4 @ Warrensville W 21-12
Wk 5 vs Port Clinton L 40-49
*Wk 6 @ CCC W 42-13
Wk 7 @ Lutheran East L 21-26
Wk 8 vs University W 40-28
*Wk 9 @ Gilmour Academy W 23-14
*Wk 10 vs Warren JFK L 10-21

Here is what the schedule shows so far for this upcoming fall:

Attached is a great article regarding Elvis and his impact around the school especially with a bullying situation he handled after a win. Worth the read.

With the NCL officially disbanding all together, where do you think VASJ will end if they chose to find a new conference. Currently the Vikings will be independent starting next school year.

They’ll be independent. Which conference would want them? Certainly not any public school conference.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they linked up with other independent NCL schools and Hoban, plus US for a new conference. No idea what is going on regarding but we shall see.

With Schools shutdown across the globe due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, will the fall sports season start on time? We shall see. I have a good feeling we will be back to watching sports by fall. Any updates regarding will be posted here.

The divisional realignment has taken place and have been published on the OHSAA website. For the 2020 season, VASJ will be competing in Division IV Region 13 this fall. I believe this is the first time VASJ has competed in D-IV since the mid 00’s I want to say 05 was the last season in IV and has dropped 2 divisions between then before returning to D-V in 2013, and moving up in 2020.

Some notable schools in D-IV R-13

CVCA, Gilmour Academy, Lake Catholic, Girard, Glenville, Chagrin Falls, Hawken, Orange, Perry, Poland Seminary, Ursuline, and West G

Much like last year VASJ will find out week 1 what they have. Traveling to CVCA and winning will not be easy. The Royals graduated a lot of talent but there is a good group of juniors that will fill in most of the spots. The Royals where 8-4 last year and earned and won their first playoff game. The QB Michael Bevington emerged as a dual threat as the season went on and earned D4 all State honors. This year's game should be as good as last year's opener.

Didn't realize St. Joe still had a football program.
Yes, we do have a program that has 1 more STATE CHAMPIONSHIP than Mass. 2020 will be another year of continued alcoholism and spousal abuse in Mass. because of the misery of the football team. You Mass. cracks need to change your lifestyle for this fanciful devotion to some mysterious and preposterous football past is illogical. Win something on the field and then put up a sign.

Some alumni news, c/o 2015 alum Marvelle Ross signed as an UDFA with Jacksonville Jaguars. Marvelle had a successful college career at NDC. Congrats Marvelle and best of luck with the Jags!

That is as strong and factual of a post one can make.

Will private schools be able to survive the Covid-19 outbreak if it extends into the fall? I can’t imagine families will pay 8,500 dollars for an online school format when they can get this same or better program from free public school. I’m not trying to be mean or negative but I do think this is going to hammer private schools. Unemployment increasing will hurt also. Public schools will get hurt too but are government backed.

Im not sure about many things when it comes to this whole mess but I can guarantee you that the public school education is not the same or better than what is happening with the private online situation. My son has friends that go to several publics around us and they have mostly checked out. A lot of them have gone to pass/fail and many kids aren't doing any work at all a d the schools are just going to push them on to the next grade anyway. My kids have tons of work, so much so that it is damn near impossible to keep up, both elementary and high school. I'm sure there will be some privates that will feel the crunch, but in my opinion its definitely worth it. Kids are going to be hurt by sll of this. They absolutely need to be back in class in the fall.

Just a mess all around that will hurt everyone in the process, I wouldn’t be shocked to see schools struggling to hang on have to shut their doors because of losing money and students. It will be a testament to see how most schools, private and public get through this.

Ouch. That was harsh. Massillon folks can be crazy about their football, but you have do have to give it to them that - they typically fire coaches when they DON'T win.

VASJ developing into a real life version bad knockoff of a Friday Night Lights show: Once solid FB program falls into anonymity, famous alum (who didn't send any of his kids to his alma mater) hired as FB coach & AD, new AD fires ultra-successful bball coach, school president steps down in backlash of bball coach firing, new AD/FB Coach eyes open school president job while rubbing hands together & grinning evilly.

Might as well sell the TV rights to the series to Netflix now. Folks are dying for something sports related to watch.

Half the job of being president of private school is fund raising. The president will hire a school principal to handle the academics and discipline parts.

It's a real mess there, has been for a while.

Someone who has name recognition can help with fund raising. However, you must be able to INSPIRE others with the UNIQUE use of the English language. Someone, who uses OK at the end of nearly every sentence, does not have the vernacular capacity to impel the masses. Besides a known name and tremendous speaking ability, one has to convey love/care for the school that others can 'feel'. All 3 of these traits requires a dynamic personality.

2020 schedule update as of 5/27/20

Week 2 Remaining open

Week 7 vs Lutheran East @ DiBiasio Stadium 7pm 10/9

Week 10 @ University School @ US 2pm 10/31

The schedule is set. Collinwood will be the week 2 opponent for the Vikings. That game will be played at 2:30pm. Additionally the Week 8 Lake Catholic game is slated for 2:30pm as well.

COVID 19 Updates:

As of August 1st per the OH Dept. of Health, fans at contact sporting events are prohibited until the State of Emergency declared by Dewine is no more or the order is altered/rescinded.

Week 2 vs Collinwood and Week 10 @ University will not happen as CMSD has cancelled their sports/extra curricular activities, same goes with University School. Unless there are mutual openings, expect games for Week 2 and 10 to not happen.

So only fans who attend contact sports can spread the virus?
