2019-2020 Bowl Game Discussion

The only bowl games that count are the national semi-finals and finals. Other games have players sitting out and, especially with the stronger teams, no motivation.

Minnesota with the solid win over Aubutn. Score was probably a little closer than it should have been. Minnesota was clearly the better team through most of the game.

Alabama went all out to win. Felt like Saban was trying to make a statement with that game. He realized he underperformed as a coach all season with that talent. Michigan seemed like the team going through the motions.

Auburn fans already wanting to fire Gus Malzhan again. Not even a month ago, he outcoached Saban to beat Bama. Auburn fans will never be happy with him.

Why the hell aren't they checking the spot of the ball for Whisky? It was a terrible spot and he made the first down. He was on an Oregon player so was not down and the ball was clearly past the 1 yard line making it a first.

Well Whisky scores on 4th down but my goodness the officiating in these bowl games has been awful. It's pure incompetence out there.

Fortunately Wisconsin got the TD after that bad spot.

Why wasn't the spot reviewed? It was a blatantly bad spot. And what are Herbi & his sidekick doing? Picking their noses instead of calling out the obvious?

Not sure why they aren't reviewing that spot at the one in the Wisconsin game. Should have been a first down inside the one.

Because the officiating in College & Pro football has descended into gross incompetence. There is a real problem here and in almost every Bowl Game the officials have been trash out there. I dread the crap officiating we're going to see during this weekends NFL playoff games.

The problem is that while bad officiating generally evens out for teams over the course of a season in one off games like the playoffs and Bowls it can be devastatingly unfair.

That the powers that be at both the college & pro level don't see the problem makes it frustrating.

they are certainly making the games hard to watch

Exactly. I've invested a lot of time and beer/wings money into these games. And while the games have been exciting the officiating, from on the field decisions to the dreaded "reply", has been ruining the experience.

Even in games I have no rooting interest in beyond it being a good game I'm getting pissed off seeing the blatant officiating mistakes.

Minnesota's play did the Big Ten proudest of teams that have played. It was nice to see the effort given by all but that team up north as far a playing the game win or lose.

One national NCAA writer commented that overall the B1G played nasty and physical this bowl season, gaining a rep which maybe influenced some calls. They also were on the wrong side of many close calls. The same guy said the offensive pass interference call at the end of the Rose Bowl was at the same level as the fumble over turn in the Fiesta Bowl, huge game changers.

One final thought. Anyone else think it would be cool to do a SEC vs B1G all star game in place of the Senior Bowl? Invite the guys who declare early and they could still have all the practices and maybe a combine style workout day, alternate Atlanta and Indy as the host site.

I would like to see a two year home and home B1G - SEC challenge like the Big 10 and ACC do in basketball. The SEC is the top conference with the Big Ten a close second. The rest of the power five conferences as a whole are garbage right now.

Year 1:

Ohio State @ Alabama
Georgia @ Penn State
Michigan @ LSU
Auburn @ Wisconsin
Michigan State @ Florida
Tennessee @ Iowa
Nebraska @ Texas A&M
Vanderbilt @ Northwestern
Kentucky @ Indiana
Minnesota @ Mississippi State
Arkansas @ Purdue
Illinois @ Ole Miss
South Carolina @ Maryland
Missouri @ Rutgers

Year 2:

Alabama @ Ohio State
Penn State @ Georgia
LSU @ Michigan
Wisconsin @ Auburn
Florida @ Michigan State
Iowa @ Tennessee
Texas A&M @ Nebraska
Northwestern @ Vanderbilt
Indiana @ Kentucky
Mississippi State @ Minnesota
Purdue @ Arkansas
Ole Miss @ Illinois

No way does the SEC give up their scheduling model to include a challenge format where top dogs play each other OOC. Jim Delaney put up a trial balloon of a move to a national formula for football scheduling and the push back from the SEC was huge so it never made it even to a committee to discuss. Heck you cannot even get them to play 9 conference games with no FCS games after September, you know it really is more about helping a Furman or Citadel make their athletic budget then a tune up before the big rivalry game

Big Ten currently 4-4 in Bowl Games with Indiana now playing to end it.

Winners:
Minnesota
Iowa
Michigan State
Penn State

Losers:
Michigan
Wisconsin
Illinois
Ohio State

Nice win for UC against a 6-6 Boston College team. Another 11 win season. I think they will be better next year.
