GCL Football brings two teams to Canton For State Championships

My apologies to our GCL North brethren. I went back through JoeEitel and found the following:
Chaminade-Julienne, 2002, D2
Alter, 2008, D4
Alter, 2009, D4

and multiple state runners up for Alter.

So 13 this century.
How many titles since the playoffs began?

Fenwick won in 73 and 74 . At the time they were not in the GCL but have been for years

You don't think NEO posters would complain if the games were in Cincy. Hell some of them were complaining when the games were in Columbus ( about the drive ).

Makes sense to move the games to Columbus or around the state....

Stark Co. is old, too long of a drive for most, crappy hotels, bad weather. Hell, the HOF not much of an incentive either ...They close at 5PM...$26 a head to get in...Same crappy weather, hotels, food etc...

Listen that is a great accomplishment but, I promise to you Elder stands no chance next week! Congrats on the great season they have had but they don't have a chance! And Lasalle is a division 1 team that is playing division 2 they should win every state title from now on!

You will eat crow come Friday night.

Why? Very few posters have ever disparaged the MAC schools, a ton of respect for their dominance in their divisions. And if we only count the GCL-S, that’s 10 titles from 4 schools, as opposed to 21 from 10 in the MAC. Give it a break.

Damn straight. The stadium is fine, but Stark County is a pit. And as a student, if I had the chance to play at the Shoe versus Benson, I’m taking Columbus every time. Playing in Stark Co for the SW teams would be the equivalent of the NEO teams coming to Dayton, and no doubt the Yappi world would never hear the end of that.

The OP made the aim that the GCL was the best conference in the state with no close second. This statement coming in a thread title pointing to the fact that the GCL is sending two teams to the State Finals. From this one would surmise that State Championships is the measuring stick of a conferences greatness.
By that measurement then it would seem that the GCL isn't a close second to the MAC which btw has two teams playing for titles next weekend as well.

My opinion is trolling? I just try to spark debate.... i dont know who you are but if my opinion offends you then leave the sight? You are a butt hurt fan i said something bad about your precious team like calm down tough guy
No, I just call out a troll when I see one. “Try to spark debate”? Right.

I think predicting a winner is all good and fine, but a statement like this, if proven wrong, makes the poster look like an @$$ and opens them up to a wave of laughs. Beware of them Panthers, they are very VERY good, and stay humble.

GCL only has 13 titles, only D1 type titles count. It is nice that they give little schools titles, makes them feel relevant.
If only DI titles count then why are you including DII Titles in your title count for the GCL?

MAC schools will never win a Texas State Championship just like they will never win a DI State Championship and for the exact same reason.

33 State Football Titles.

That is pretty short sited by the HoF. You would think they would alter hours for this Weekend. Close at like 10:30pm.
I guess that is asking too much for 1 weekend a year...

The is an excellent accomplishment by the MAC and western Ohio is very proud of them.

Would you be so kind as to furnish us a list of these victories? Thank you for your time and trouble.

Ok, so computing L1 Harbins from the MAC and GCL title games (with 2013 being the first year with 7 divisions, and I don't know when the changeover went from 5 to 6 divisions, so computed the earlier titles based on 6 divisions, also unsure how big Bacon and PM were in the 80s, so assuming D4 and D5 titles), if the MAC wins both games this weekend, and the GCL wins both of their games this weekend, then the MAC would have the edge in Harbins 133.0 to 132.5.

So the MAC is the Harbin-adjusted leader.

But it is razor close.

Fair enough. GCL one of the best big school conferences in the state and country, MAC at least equal on the small school side.
