2018 final standings:
1- McDonald 11-1 (7-0)
2- Springfield 9-1 (6-1)
3- Western Reserve 8-2 (5-2)
4- Jackson-Milton 4-6 (4-3)
5- Lowellville 3-7 (3-4)
6- Mineral Ridge 2-8 (2-5)
7- Waterloo 2-8 (1-6)
8- Sebring 0-10 (0-7)

With the new enrollment numbers it looks like there will be 2 very likely changes in divisions: Waterloo moving up to D5 and McDonald dropping to D7.

Going to be a very interesting year at the top of the league. The big 3 all lose both their QB and RB along with other top players. They all do have some nice returning pieces ready for expanded roles and young players ready to step up. They’ll still be leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the league, but it’s impossible to pick a favorite among the 3.

The mid-pack group had an awful OOC showing in 2018 (1-11 compared to 6-6 in 2017) and that cost McDonald a home game and Springfield a playoff spot. Who knows what to expect amongst them

And then Sebring, the 3rd straight year we’ll be wondering if they’ll field a team. Their old coach said they were down to 10 players at times in 2018. They also now have the 7th longest active losing streak at 22 straight.

So funny if Waterloo goes to D 5. They left the PTC because they couldn't compete supposedly with bigger schools. Now they would join Crestwood, Garfield as D5.
Thinking they jumped ship way too soon, especially with all their money problems, they must be spending alot on transportation costs now!

Typical McD Luck in dropping to D7 1 year too late. :( They might of went to state in D7.
I guess they should make the playoff at least.

Waterloo FB not very good. They won the MVAC is BB though so I guess that was good.

Yep, they would’ve been heavy favorites to win region 25 last year then would’ve had a really good shot at beating Trimble in the semi’s. That said, the next 2 years McDonald should be good enough to compete at the top of region 25 and make some runs, skill positions will be solid, just depends on if they can develop a good line.

I heard Sebring had around 40 kids interested in playing football for the new coach. We'll see how many of those actually stick with it come summer practice.

After the last decade they've had, having 40 kids interested in attending games would be a goal. 40 even considering playing is a huge improvement.

Kids do these sign ups at school. They get out of last period early if they sign up. At Struthers one year they had like 80 boys grades 10-12 sign up. Why? To get out of class early.

I hear they are clearing trees out at the site of the proposed new football facility in McDonald. Some have said this might be an all purpose track only on the site and no football field. Anyone know what their plans are? Or is the tree removal for something else?

All schedules completed, and added the AAC blue since they’ll be apart of this league starting next year.

Divisions for each league in 2019-
MVAC:
D5- Waterloo (up from D6)
D6- Springfield, Mineral Ridge, Western Reserve
D7- McDonald (down from D6), Jackson-Milton, Lowellville, Sebring

AAC:
D5- Champion, Crestview
D6- Labrae (down from D5), Liberty, Newton Falls, Campbell, Brookfield

So Waterloo leaves PTC county where they would join D5 Rootstown, Southeast, Crestwood, Garfield, D6 Mogadore and D7 Valley. Hum..no wonder the locals wonder what is going on. Yep increased transportation costs when you could be back in a league where majority of schools are your same division.

Here is what I can find for scrimmage schedules, if anyone can help fill in the rest it would be great:

McDonald:
8/16- @South Range
8/23- @Southern

Springfield:
8/13- Liberty
8/17- Campbell
8/22- Salem

Western Reserve:
8/13- @Salem
8/22- @Columbiana

Jackson-Milton:
8/16- @Crestwood
8/22- Valley Christian

Lowellville:
8/15 @Chalker
8/22- @Mathews

Mineral Ridge:
8/15- @Leetonia
8/22- Liberty

Waterloo:
8/13- @East Palestine
8/22- @St Thomas Aquinas

Sebring:
8/10- Akron North
8/15- Newberry

Rumor is that the PTC county teams left if Crestwood leaves (Garfield, Rootstown, Mogadore, Southeast, Valley Christian) are in talks to merging onto the MVAC together.

With the new teams already in 2020 for the MVAC this would be a large conference and would have to split in 2 divisions.

Heard the same jmog. Wouldn't it be funny if Waterloo ended up playing the teams in the league they left because those teams were too " tough" for them! Wouldn't mind adding McDonald and Western Reserve, the others....not so much. Probably split East vs West divisions if it happens.

That would be interesting but it would have to be split 3 ways, there’s already going to be 15 schools under the MVAC umbrella starting next year with the 7 AAC Blue tier schools joining. As of now the tiers were going to be kept the same.

If those 5 from the PTC join that would be 20. Definitely 3 divisions for football.

If Garfield goes with Crestwood like the other rumor and Valley Christian doesn’t join (they are the outlier among PTC schools) then that is 18 and can be done in 2 divisions.

Will be interesting.

Wrestling wise I like the idea of joining the MVAC rather than the county just sticking together (only 5 schools have wrestling).

And you could also potentially see a school like Newton Falls defect to the NAC. The MVAC schools are pretty weary of having a ITCL part 2, which is why the AAC tier is staying the same and not mixing the 2 leagues. There definitely wouldn’t be any setup that involves cross-overs. I do like the idea of bringing in the PTC schools, they would bring a lot to the league.

I know nothing about wrestling but doesn’t Jackson-Milton have a solid wrestling program?

What is the benefit of bringing thebAAC blue in if they are leaving it all the same? Money? Why wouldn’t the AAC BLUE just start their own conference if that’s the case?

Plus there’s talk of adding more???

Some of the aac blue schools in particular have issues with playing nice in big conferences.

To be honest, in the current MVAC none of the schools are really good at wrestling, but once you add the AAC Liberty is pretty good and would be the only competition the next few years to Rootstown and Mogadore.

To be honest Rootstown and Mogadore would blow away all the current MVAC schools (only 4 have wrestling) in wrestling, J-M would be the closest but would still be a distant 3rd. They may even fall behind Southeast or Garfield both up and coming programs. The PTC was loaded in wrestling for D2 and D3 (only 3 divisions in wrestling) with both the Metro and County. Rootstown has been a top tier D3 program in NE Ohio lately, Mogadore will probably subplant them as top in the PTC County this year (2 good classes, will have 3 good years with them together). Norton, Coventry, Crestwood, and Streetsboro have really rounded out the PTC.

As a wrestling fan, joining the MVAC will be a step down in competition compared to the PTC to be honest (even with the AAC schools) but it is better than just the PTC county alone with only 4 or 5 schools that have wrestling since the Metro is leaving.

Hard to have a league tournament with only 4 schools even if the 4 schools are pretty good. I like joining the MVAC wrestling wise with the AAC schools for pure numbers reason. Combined between PTC County, MVAC, and AAC there are about 12 schools with wrestling which makes for a great 1 day tournament.

The NAC could very well come into play here somewhere, as they are looking for members.... Grand Valley went to the Chagrin... Fairport is moving to the NAC... Newbury is consolidating with West Geauga... with the NAC already being small, they could pick up somebody...

An addition for you kingpin.

Thanks Raider I added it. Hard to believe we are only about a month away from another football season really getting going. Hoping I can make the trip for the McDonald-SR scrimmage to check out your guys new stadium.
