Weird stadiums

I thought of this when I drove by Celina Stadium today. How many other stadiums have their press box on top of their visitor stands? I know Massillon has one on their visitor side but Celina's is literally over their visitor stands.

I don't have pics but the old field at Mechanicsburg(OH) ran downhill both north/south and east/west. The small press box sat at the 15 yard line angled toward midfield.

Ravenna had pressbox on visitor side.

Is the old stadium around?
I kinda liked that place with the covered stands when we played there.
Unique look.
The new stadium is quite nice but I prefer the old school stadiums.
Was at Sharon Tiger stadium when the Cats played there.
Some might think it weird, but a very nice atmosphere there.

Saw one on the Smithsonian Channel today. Weehawken, NJ. Baseball infield between 1st and 2nd base and nearly the entire outfield overlaps the football field. The Lincoln Tunnel runs underneath it.

I didn't quite get ToledoMansfield's "prison" reference but to each their own I guess.

I wish I could find a photo on-line from this year's Clay-Waite game. I know I saw one. Most would presume an inner-city school and two marginal programs playing, stands would be empty but there had to be 2000. Hard to tell with all the walking room, there's always several hundred just milling at that plaza (or whatever they call that area in front of concessions).

The photos from the inside looking out at the neighborhood and the Sacred Heart when it's lit, I wouldn't have on-line. And I'm no great photographer. Best one's would be from Press Box anyhow and I don't have access to that. I hear they're finally going to get a track in the Ravine. They're also I guess putting in turf, not sure how I feel about that but I guess even this NFL stuff gets worn out by the grade school games. The new lighting is the best I've ever seen, even better than the universities. It's horizontal so doesn't glare into the eyes.

East, these are the best I have. It 'twas a great crowd and a great game.

Those were great, Thanks! Had to me more than 2000 at the game then. Nice view of those new field lights across the way, though I hope they can redirect those lower ones and still cover the field.

I think they're rebuilding the visitor's side at the Waite Moellenkopf (THE Moellenkopf ;) ) stadium. That might not be a bad idea. They could actually put it outside the stadium with a small cantilever in so there wouldn't be any obstructed field view. Would kind of block the view of the neighborhood, not that it's that important but it's been there and gotten used to.

No the old Ravenna stadium is long gone with its Ravens roost! The nearby train and factory. Was really unique.

A sub genre to this might be stadiums located in neighborhoods and not attached to the High School, I have always had a soft spot for these and they create a cool atmosphere. The previous mentioned Shaw is a good example and I guess back in the day when East Cleveland was a flourishing suburb it was a big tradition for the band to march from the school through the city to the field. Another located in a neighborhood is Don Paul in Fremont. Any others in Ohio?

Salem's Reilly Stadium is in a residential/downtown area about 3/4 of a mile from the high school. The east side of the stadium is in the backyards of homes on Ohio Ave. A couple of trees in the backyards of these homes hang over the visitors stands. On the westside is the discus/shot area that borders backyards. The south end zone is bordered by Reilly Elementary School which borders more backyards. Visitors often think that Reilly School is the high school. You can view the games from outside the fenced area on Pershing Ave (north end zone). There is also a fenced area near the south end zone outside of the stadium where you can watch the game from the elementary school playground. Years back when they remodeled the stadium they removed a few other endearing aspects of the stadium to the dismay of some of the locals. The band also marches through town from the high school to the stadium.

Chargin falls has their stadium set up so the entrance to the home locker room is directly in the middle of the home stands it is the only one I have ever seen like that

Niles Stadium is the same. May not be 50 yardline but its a tunnel where they used to have to dig the track out each season for a ramp to get on the field.

About halfway thru there is a close up version of the tunnel

The bad thing about having the tunnel right next to your bench is you don't get that cool affect of running across the field to your bench, in the video it looked weird that they had that "U" shaped entrance to the field. On the flip side I am sure it is nice to have the locker room steps away from the sidelines if you need anything including a bio break.

Worthington Kilbourne - the train tracks there are 50 feet from the back of the visitor bleachers.

First time Hamilton Twp traveled there, teams were lined up, we were nervously waiting the kickoff - and with no warning a train came blasting thru, horn just a-blaring right when it went by. We all jumped out of our skin. We could see the Kilbourne folks on the other side of the field, bent over laughing. They probably get a lot of mileage out of that train. Probably have a deal worked out with the engineer. :D

Not weird, per se, but it is a small stadium with one oddity due to their athletic fields being very close together. Visiting football fans have to negotiate a narrowing path to get to the visitor bleachers. The fence from the nearby baseball field forces you to squeeze thru a 3-foot pass when walking outside the track fence to get to your seat:

Lake had a playoff game at Killbourne and a train came thru...didn't faze us...we have had trains go by that are just as close at Perry...lol...its a toss up on which stadium has the tracks closer to it.

Ever been to Anna lol? They have train tracks even closer than that and a train goes by probably 5 or 6 times a game!

Being a WBL guy, I always loved Skip Baughman. Stands were close to the field, the train tracks were a cool feature with the Track Backers. Definitely a fun, intimidating place to play.

Neither that or Celina's visitor side press box come close to the most unique in the WBL though.

Van Wert's Eggerss Stadium literally has a concrete wall right at the back of one of the end zones. On the other side is a Family Video, and just beyond that is Main Street/Lincoln Highway.

It's not on the visitor's side (because there are no stands on the visitor's side), but Cincinnati Withrow's "press box" is built into the school itself. It is in the part with the white facing and the cupola on top. You have to go up a few flights of stairs and through an auxiliary gym/cafeteria to get to it. I think it is really just a nice, wide hallway, but it is long enough to be divided up for coaches of different teams to be in separate areas.
The windows tilt open (as opposed to sliding windows most press boxes have), so finding the right angle for filming is a challenge.

I haven’t been down to New Philly in a while but the last time VASJ played Tusky CC I was talking to one of their staff members during pregame and was telling us the plans that they had for their field in the next few years and this was before they built their new press box and since they put the press box on the visitors side.
